Re: A Linear Crit/Hit/Graze/Miss rework
Okay, it's more complicated behind the scenes then I thought, but does any of that make the displayed shot information incorrect? Also Crit still negates Dodge, and seems to be exactly what it's supposed to do. Aim is "I'll get the lead in the general direction" and Crit is "I'll get ...

Re: Help with a 10 advent strength region
They've chosen to use that region as their base of operations to retake the continent. They won't stop unless you break their forces there. With them already being at 10 it's going to be rough, but you can run max Intel, Scientist, and scan with the Avenger and run all the Troop Column Ambushes to w...

SPARKs basically don't do anything other than stand, punch, and shoot. You also can't Command them, and most officer abilities don't work on them.

Re: Explosives on the ceiling
Yeah, the AI targeting code has some oddities in it. xwynns has it on video where a MEC fires micromissiles about three screens away at a target nobody on the alien side even has LoS to. I've had issues with snakes displaying perfect awareness of unseen troops as well, even if they intend to shoot r...

Re: what do the mission objectives mean?
I got others I don't know what hey do: "Liberation, hinder ADVENT operation", what operation is that? and "atack counterirsurgency ops" what do this do? Hinder ADVENT should be Liberation stage 3, assassinate VIP. Attack Counterinsurgency Ops should be a mission to counter a str...

Re: How does it work the Advent Strength?
I thought ADVENT strength grew by doing missions in that region and thet some missions afected more than others. So I tryied to stop the operations on a region that was at strength-4 and focused on other regions but the first one still grew anyway up to strength-7. So why does this region still gro...

Re: DLC mission is missing
They're still trying to figure out why the DLC missions don't always work correctly. They made a change in 1.2 that may have helped, but they're still working on it. Dark Events triggering before they expire is supposed to be fixed in 1.3 I believe. The Nest might be permanently missing from your ca...

Re: How are people liberating regions so fast?
I liberate my starting region straight away. As mentioned, it's really easy to do, even at relatively high ADVENT strength values, when all they have are basic M1 troops and Sectoids and Vipers. I do like to aim to have lasers before the HQ. I also expand immediately into the surrounding regions so ...

Re: Slayed by unrevealed enemies LeL
Damn Good Ground is actually the +aim/crit from higher ground. Death from Above is the rank 2 perk that removes Squadsight penalties and gives you a free action if you kill an enemy at a lower elevation. Focus Fire is the rank 1 officer perk that gives a cumulative +5 to hit for every shot taken at...

Re: A Linear Crit/Hit/Graze/Miss rework
50% crit in Long War means 50% of your hits will be crits. If you have 40% to hit, then you have 20% to crit. That's half. It also means that half of your grazes will be hits instead. Dodge does the opposite. If the enemy has 20 dodge, and you have 50% to hit, then 10% of your hits will be grazes, ...

Re: Slayed by unrevealed enemies LeL
Crit is on the laser sight. The scope is aim. You get a sniper with good base aim, so they'll get up to 80 or so. Go up on elevated terrain for +10, Damn Good Ground will give you +10, an Elite Scope will give you +15, Steady Weapon from an Elite Stock will give you +20. That right there puts you a...

Re: Timer Q
I believe the timer remembers where it was the last time it was running. So if you removed a pip with 4 days left, and then the aliens got that pip back, you still have only 4 days to go. Firaxis made that change because "surfing the timer" was the best way to play, just letting the "...

I like the sound of that. It can be hard enough that you aren't just going to run around countering everything, but when you see that upgrade that you just do not want to deal with, you have a way to make it stop.

Sounds like Even More Maps - Suffer! which is based around giving you very different, decidedly un-vanilla maps. Some of them are cover sparse, some terrain dense, some are based on EU maps. Personally I love it because it breaks up the monotony of the vanilla designs and prevents you from just disr...

Re: Viability of delayed Liberation
I've always rushed them. Just get the tower done before the spike and you'll be fine. I run pure Intel all the way so I get troop ambushes and transfers and can knock strength down a bit. Sure some of the strength is going to get dispersed when the HQ goes down, but that strength always existed. It'...

Re: Early missions with short timers, a failing strategy
Incidentally - as there's an advantage to be gained from doing that - we need a way to get missions off the map without sending a single rookie who pops the flare and leaves. It's a stupid byproduct of the design and presumably not intentional, since it's very boring and you have to sit through two...

Re: Slayed by unrevealed enemies LeL
RNG is Random Number Generator. It's the part of the program that "rolls the die" for your action. The particularity of XCom's RNG is that it will always roll the same die after you reload so you can try as much as you want, if the RNG rolled a triple natural 20 for those vipers (don't kn...

I think the biggest offender is Tactical Senses, and xwynns keeps making veiled references to that being "fixed", so presumably it's being addressed.
Frankly I've never understood that perk, on either side. The more targets I have to keep track of, the BETTER I am at doing it!

Re: Slayed by unrevealed enemies LeL
Yeah, Firaxis programmed the game to use a fixed seed for the random numbers so that reloading the turn makes the same things happen. They did it to stop people from just reloading until things go their way. You need to either go back several turns and make different moves to change the seed conditi...

Re: what do the mission objectives mean?
In theory, it enables you to get advent to transfer strength to that region from other regions. So, for example, if you're ready to do HQ or network tower in a region but advent strength is too high, you could stop doing missions there, get advents attention somewhere else and hit the tower/HQ when...

As a side-note, does anyone actually know where the soldiers learning in the AWC do supposedly go? It visually looks like purely a MedBay, and I assume they don't just sit in the biggest, fanciest bed and download their new skill... It's a VR system. If you click to upgrade the AWC to get the secon...

Squadsight range is infinite, and Death From Above negates the range penalties. You can do it too.
The LoS issue is inherent to the game, there`s a mod that fixes it somewhat called less silly lines of sight or something to that effect.
Naja have 75 aim, 80 for elites I believe.

You make it sound like 20% of your hits will graze. This is not true. 10% of your hits will graze, and so will 10% of your misses.
IMO LW2's system makes way more sense than vanilla's linear system.

Re: Concussion Rocket: Badass or Bugged?
That's a pretty reckless assumption and honestly if you're that assure of your dominance on that turn why use the rocket at all? The action would be better spent on assisting in their elimination. If you needed to remove overwatch/psi a flashbang would do the job without the unfortunate side affect...
