Re: Rockets vs. Grenades

I prefer grenadiers to technicals. And offensive nades over support. Quantity over quality for me. Or, better said, enough quantity is a quality of its own XD I blow everything up and mop up with the rest of the team. Except trees. The nemesis of the sapper grenadier! The mofos are made of steel XD ...

Re: Picking Soldier Classes for Rookies Not Created Equally

Low aim/crap mobility: Grenadiers (I have like 7 XD). I send them as haven advisers. Grenades are always handy for retaliation missions. Very high aim (69+): Sharpshooters. High aim: Rangers, gunners. High mobility, below average other stats: Shinobis (I use them as scouts almost always, so I don't ...

Re: Ambushes and Supply Raids kicking my a**

Well, I think ALL maps have some high ground, but some of them have none near your starting point. Some raids I've had to move through the edge of the map all the way to the opposite side just to get my troops up a building. That's very hard to do if you went at 0% infil and there are a gazillion po...

Re: Is Gauss/Mag rushing possible?

Lasers are 25 supplies, mag is 40 supplies (+ some minor alloy/elerium) per weapon. It's certainly possible, but I don't see how it's desired. For one thing if you want to rush mag weapons, then you need a bit of luck of the draw to have enough scientist rescues to speed it along. Also like everyon...

Re: Holy smokes, that first tower mission?!!!

WTF? I did it with basic guns. Zero problems. Veteran no-ironman so I indeed reload a save a couple times (I avoid save-scumming but will load a save if things go really really bad). 170% infiltration, though XD You just need a shinobi, a sniper, and 3 guys to deal with reinforcements (grenadier, gu...

Re: Is Gauss/Mag rushing possible?

I did it in Veteran (no ironman). Not on purpose, I just did not have any supplies at all to buy laser weapons. So I skipped "advanced laser weapons" and went straight to Magnetic. I got magnetic just after liberating my first region and starting to get a decent, stable supply of supplies....

Re: Tips for any of the close-quarter classes/abilities?

I'm having a really hard time using some of these classes/builds efficiently, when I try to get to an optimal range/position for Trench Gun, Fleche, Flamethrower, Point Blank, etc. I can't seem to do so without activating 1-2 other pods. What strategies are others having success with? I usually avo...

Re: (Friendly Consideration) Replace [+ Health] on Armors with [+ Armor] and [- Mobility]

People take game concepts way too literal. Every game mechanic is an abstraction. Vests giving you extra health means damage mitigation. Same thing with people complaining about missing "in da face" shots. It's just an abstraction, in reality no alien would politely wait for you to run up ...

Ummm... I now need to check my game, cos I indeed rendered the guy for materials before the autopsy and I think I no longer see the autopsy option. Thought it was due to not having any corpse... but I guess then it should show in red. Confirmed this is a bug. Tested a couple times and if you render ...

Weird indeed, cos there's even a Steam Achievement for doing precisely that, and I got it last week. So it's a feature even in vanilla.

You're playing in the hardest setting and complain the game is hard?

Anyway, hope someone can help you, the beauty of modding is playing however you want. Also rest assured the free shots are always standard, not special abilities, so no rocket in your face.

Re: Why should I create groups?

I don't find squads very useful. Most of the time I need to go into a mission with soldiers from different squads cos everyone else is in hospital. By the way, if you see your officer details, there is a button showing you the list of soldiers that have server under him (and how many missions each)....

Re: Feature Request - Promote Rebel to Soldier

Good idea. That's exactly what I think when I see a rebel starting to get good combat perks. It would be even cooler if it was for free, but he needed to survive a combat mission (faceless/retaliation) for getting the promotion.

I'd say send that Sharpshooter as adviser to some haven and train a rookie with decent stats in the GTS. It's what I do with very crappy guys, regardless of class. You could even train him as office first for extra detection.

Re: How to use Ranger secondary?

Like many tools and perks, the sawed off is situational (unless you really build your ranger around it if you get one with high mobility and poor aim). But when that berserker is closing on you, those double barrels are godsend. One-hit-kill if it crits (which often does) or seriously wounded if not...

Re: How do you equip your soldiers?

Why not use 3 frag 1 flash? Or 4 frag? Or 2 frag 2 flash (with ordnance giving you another effective frag) Is ceramic that valuable over another nade? (considering nades are excellent with the grenadier's launcher) Now that nades don't break cover consistently unless you have sapper, I find it a wa...

-Give grenadier 2 frags instead of frag+flash (going full sapper with my grenadiers). I don't understand - the grenadier can wear 2 frags and a flash and that's how it default is laid out to. Do you not use 2 frag + flash on grenadiers? Sorry, I meant remove flash and give them another frag. That w...

I like to have options and a good toolbox to handle anything, so I usually have 1 guy for role. I also like to keep my distance and have all my guys in hard cover, so my choices reflect my playstyle. Thanks for your replies! I'll definitely give the Arc-Thrower-Assault a spin. And giving my rangers some extended clips so they can fire non-stop does indeed help. I'm not a fan of overwatch, though. I prefer to kill everything on my turn, on my terms, and flashbang/suppress what I cannot kill. Diso...

Need some help with Assault and Ranger classes

Hi there! Loving LW2 so far. I had not used any of the new classes here before. I like the redesign very much but I'm struggling with Assault and Ranger. I'm 99% sure I'm using them wrong so I thought to ask. I'm still using kevlar and have just researched magnetic weapons (though no cash to build t...
