Ok... am I the only one who basically completely ditched meat bags after getting the suppression upgrade for the shivs?

Since it does fairly minimal damage, you can use it to protect units that end up grazing a critical shot and would otherwise end up screwed. Just revive them next round if you need to move them. Also since I tend to run a mind shield on an assault or shinobi that is going to be pretty far forward or...

Mine are all specialists because every single squad has a healer focused specialist no matter the mission.
Also... they're kinda my go to class for training meh rookies because they're very useful stationed in havens so I've always got a few extra lying around.

I used a shinobi, 2 gunners with the +1 tile suppression upgrade, and 2 specialists Gunners suppressed and destroyed cover, specialists overwatched, aided, etc, and shinobi stabbed the aliens in the face many many times on the way to the terminal. Doubt that'd work where I am now though considering ...

Pretty sure that's working as intended.
However... if you can hold out against the first big push you can usually move a couple shinobi to the EMP and start whacking it to death.
