Re: WotC is literally impossible to lose??
I just finished a campaign, that I drew out, unlocked everything, never saw the -1 avatar project card.

Re: WotC is literally impossible to lose??
Pretty much. From what I can tell it's easy to reduce avatar, and you can replace Cols late game, or just build SPARKs. And really Squaddie Rangers are pretty effective regardless. Losing is mostly about "deciding" to lose. I "lost" my first WOTC campaign when I went into the cho...

Re: Make redscreen rounds work
I use redscreen extensively, in L/I. At first, I put them on 'non-shooter' classes, usually 1 or 2 of the soldiers in a mission. Technical, grenadiers, psi if I used them, shinobi. They should NOT be on the officer or specialist. This allows you to shoot twice using command, letting you easily captu...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
Volatile mix is very good, and I used to take it on every grenadier, but I've since switched to Salvo, which I think is overall stronger, especially if you take fullkit at MSGT. The idea behind salvo is that you can sting or incendiary a lot more enemies with two smaller radius grenades, than with o...

Re: HP Dodge & Defense
I find them all pretty irrelevant, especially compared to aim and mobility. HP is a nice to have so that you can tank a hit, I usually give PCS conditioning to grenadiers for example, because they're the only class that doesn't need aim or mobility.

Re: The AWC in LWotC - a proposal
I believe when "best build gets spammed" was said, it didn't mean "1 build only". It'll be "best build for given role" and depending on playstyle you only need about 3~4 different builds across your entire barracks. How exactly is that any different from the game, othe...

Re: The AWC in LWotC - a proposal
I think if you just open it up to let you build modular soldiers, we'll just figure out which build is the best and then spam it. I like the randomness of the AWC. I also like the randomness of the training center in WOTC. I like the training center > AWC, because it's generally easier to get those ...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue
One disadvantage of infiltration I haven't seen mentioned, and is a bit hard to articulate: The waiting period between equipping/selecting a squad and using that squad, feels... bad. When I'm making decisions to equip the squad, I don't get to find out if I made good decisions until much later in re...

Ahaha there is no way this an accident, forcing me to choose. Damn you Pavonis.
I understand good strategy games are all about making hard choices, but this a new level, very meta.

Re: What to do with a high vigilance region?
Be advised that Relay doesn't counter as a inv. object so it's immune to insta-kill by Shaped Charge/Rockets/Bunker Bustard/Sapper-Combat Eng. Explosives. They (other then Shaped Charge) will still damage it but just it's a scratch. ? I distinctively remember rushing a grenadier with combat enginee...

Re: Coping with wildly unbalanced Haven Retals ahead of 1.5?
The 5 turn haven evac missions CAN be won consistently, I've never lost a soldier or rebel on them in almost 2 entire 1.4 L/I playthroughs. You do however need a good strategy. You need to bring soldiers that can clear the enemies as they spawn, and you need a couple of fast scouts to gather up civv...

Can also just stick everyone on supply. Don't have to liberate if you don't want to take the risk. It's only a 20% difference between a liberated and unliberated region for supply generation.

Re: Assault class - how to effectively used them?
Well I can play with 3 Rangers, Rangers have both strongest OW builds and strongest Shoot builds. I don't see how Assault can compete with that, with their close range they are a lot more contextual and quite more than Shinobi. I have to see any let's play showing regular uses of Shotgun skills, so...

Re: Kubikiri. Good or way too good?
Using red screen rounds is easy, and it pays off whether there is a sectopod or not. m3, or even an m2, is also very useful to mind control, and with redscreen you can use haywire as well as full override. For redscreen, put it on a NON-officer that can shoot a target more than once a turn. Ex, a te...

Re: Kubikiri. Good or way too good?
I don't see how an acid grenade is good... ever. For example, just compare it to a plasma grenade: Acid: 1-3 Damage, 3 shred, 1 rupture. Probably does another 1 damage tick on the alien turn. Plasma: 4-8 Damage, 2 shred, destroys cover, and has THREE TIMES the radius. 99% of the time a Plasma grenad...

Re: Kubikiri. Good or way too good?
Speaking as someone who doesn't use Kubikiri much, I don't think it needs to be nerfed. The other big targets have other equally strong or even better counters. If you're using Psi you could also just use stasis, don't even need Kubi. Assault's stun gun will also work. For robots I'd rather bring Fu...

Re: CyberBall stupid AI
I'm mostly ok with the current cyberball design, they're a very high end game threat that are difficult to kill in one turn. They have very few specific counters: stun gun, kubikiri, and stasis. Of those only stasis is really 100% reliable. The other counter I suppose is to just runaway, entirely re...

Re: Assault class - how to effectively used them?
Assaults are particularly strong on low strength missions, things like extremely light and very light (they're strong on big missions too, but yes can get into trouble with too many activations). Pulling extra pods isn't as big of a deal on an extremely light. To avoid it, you need to figure out whe...

Re: Grenadiers suck.
So am I the only one that uses grenadiers extensively (L/I)? I bring one on every mission, and he's carrying 3 sting grenades and 2 incendiaries. Basically every GOP for me is Shinobi + Grenadier + 3xDamage. Being able to shutdown half the enemies makes everything much easier, and incendiaries by th...

Re: Grenadiers suck.
Joinrbs is a great player, but has some funny ideas about perks sometimes. Like thinking that VPT is better than Dead-Eye, or that Tac Sense is really strong. That said I agree that needle grenades just doesn't compete in its tier. Rapid Deployment is ridiculously good, the entire game, and Sapper i...

Re: Least valuable class in 8-man squad?
I think this thread is a testament to how well the Pavonis crew has designed the LW2 classes. Everyone builds their ideal squads differently, and given how few variables there are to optimize, the diversity is surprising. I can agree with that. I think there are some imbalances at certain parts of ...

Re: Technicals and Grenadiers with SMG's
The best way to think of it is that there are four primary weapon classes, and four secondary weapon classes. The primary weapon classes are Ranger, Sharpshooter, Gunner, and Assault. For the most part they'll be spending their turns shooting. The secondary weapon classes are Specialist, Shinobi, G...

Re: Legend difficulty vigilance generation mechanics
I haven't been able to slow Avatar in 1.4 on L/I. It would require doing hard missions with weak soldiers. I basically only play extremely lights on GOPs, with the rare very light. Joinrbs, Saph, and xwynns play in a similar way. Aedn though from what I've gathered does a LOT of missions, even thing...

Re: Should I restart campaign?
Disagree with advice about not generating supplies early. I start doing supplies as soon as I can generate about 4 simultaneous missions. That's only about 2.5 regions on Intel. Not unusual to be able to get a good supply drop in May or early June.
