Re: [General Feedback] 1.2 Commander campaign – feedback on classes, missions, and Psi

I dont think psiops should come earlier or cheaper. Rushing them should be desirable option, but it should be costly and with weight. I actually think it'd be a lot of fun to get to use psis from March onwards. The LW2 guys seem to be committed to the idea of requiring psis to be trained up on miss...

Re: [General Feedback] 1.2 Commander campaign – feedback on classes, missions, and Psi

One thing though - mind/soul merge don't need to cure mental effects if solace worked; even if solace can't be fixed then you still have a power that's doing very different things: removing mental effects and granting ablative hp (as opposed to healing). So as not to overlap with specialist abiliti...

[General Feedback] 1.2 Commander campaign – feedback on classes, missions, and Psi

So just finishing up my Commander campaign . . . it was started in 1.1 but most of the campaign has been in 1.2. Technically the campaign isn't over but I'm pulling in 2,500 supply income a month, the Avatar project is sitting at exactly one pip, and the only thing stopping me from running through t...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?

Damn. I just learned Solace on one of my only two semi-useful psis.

I already noticed that it did nothing as regards removing panic, but I'd been hoping it might at least work on some other things. Hope it doesn't mess up my game too badly . . .

Re: Campaign Feedback: Prices/Abilities/strategic layer

So the big thing about sharpshooters is that DFA allows you to fire and then steady. Which gives a significant amount of aim and critical chance. Rangers can do this as well, but rangers have a problem in that, because they don't have squadsight they aren't guaranteed* a good shot on a target the n...

Re: Shredder perk/ammo

Shredder ammo shreds for 1. That doesn't really make a dent. When you face those things, you need someone with the perk so you shred 2 per shot, or preferably a shredstorm cannon. It can work, you just need multi-shot abilities. I used Shredder ammo on my Gunners last campaign. With Chain Shot and ...

Re: Campaign Feedback: Prices/Abilities/strategic layer

Overall I want to see PG projects and individual purchase swapped in marginal value. Once you complete the research you should be able to purchase the individual items at 2x to 5x their current cost. And then doing the PG project would make them infinite/basic (like smokes). The project cost would ...

Re: Feedback from no <50% infil campaign

Good post! Matches my experience on a lot of points. I think there are two reasons that weapons/armour tech dominates so hard: 1) They're the most efficient in terms of 'bang for your buck'. If I do a Stun Lancer autopsy, I get an upgraded sword for my Shinobi; that boosts one of the attack modes ou...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?

We reduced training times and I made sure the psi can attain top-tier ability if they line up the prerequisites, and the choices should generally be more in-line with the Psi Operative's skill level. As the patch notes say, I'm not claiming that's sufficient, but it would help if people gave them a...

Re: Smash and grab missions

I was wondering about that too. From watching JoINrbs's stream, it sounds like they're still tweaking the balance on the Smash and Grabs, so that might be why they're not out just yet. Personally, I'm happy just to get 1.2. :)

Re: You'll Need This?

I find pistols are useful on rangers too, as rangers are so likely to run out of ammo. If an alien has low health left, finishing them off with a pistol is usually as effective as a gun. It allows for the ranger to shoot more often. Autoloaders will solve that problem too, at least for your initial...

Re: Low Aim Rookies

The second most aim dependent class is the ranger. But they're terrible so stick any you get in your havens and ignore them the rest of the game. If you're filling your squads with low-aim soldiers and not going to any effort to buff it then yeah, you're going to think rangers are terrible. On the ...

Of course, there's a 25% chance that your Psi isn't even going to have Soulfire at all. Have fun with your only active abilities being Insanity and Mind Merge . . .

Re: LW2 needs more "middle class" missions

Thinking about it, both the 'too many stealth missions' complaints and the '0% supply raids' complaints come down to how incentives currently work in LW2. In Hack/VIP missions, the objective is to hack or rescue the VIP. Engaging in combat is low reward and high risk. Result: players are incentivise...

Re: [General Feedback] Thoughts after first full playthrough

I find a stun oriented assault operative to be critical. Chain lightning with an arc blaster has saved my bacon many times. I did have a stun-gun Assault that I was trying to level up, but she never made it to MSGT to get Chain Lightning. It feels as though Chain Lightning should be really good, bu...

Re: [Suggestion for 1.3] Adjustments to the Psi Ops

I see all those Soulfire complaints Yet a lot of praise for Combat Protocol What gives? Soulfire is actually okay. Not amazing, but okay. It's numbers aren't impressive, but guaranteed damage is always useful. Combat Protocol gets more praise because: 1) You get it way way earlier. Soulfire would b...

Yeah, pretty much. I can't see the point of OM for anything except extractions.

If you really want it nerfed, just go with number 4, 'Command doesn't affect civilians'.

Re: [Suggestion for 1.3] Adjustments to the Psi Ops

Suggestion is simply the cardinal rule of "do no harm." Start with the way the psi class was in vanilla, you can learn everything with enough time. This 1.1 implementation is a huge step backwards - we have less variety of skills available. The point of long war is to increase variety (i....

[Suggestion for 1.3] Adjustments to the Psi Ops

Okay, so as things stand I think the Psi Ops is the only class in LW2 that's significantly underpowered. Patch 1.2 is intended to help a bit with training time, but from watching JoINrbs' 1.2 Twitch stream, while this let his Psi troops level up faster, it didn't seem as though it actually made the ...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?

What is the rationale behind their heavy cost when considering their power level? It's a holdover from vanilla where they really were quite powerful. But LW2 nerfed the Psi Ops in various ways. Firstly, you have Infiltration time now, so soldiers availability is much more limited. This means that h...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?

For me the big problem with Psi Ops is the question of what they bring to the table. From my experience so far with LW2, when you lose (or nearly lose) a mission it's pretty much always for the same reason: you get overwhelmed by too many enemies that you can't kill fast enough. So the big question ...

Re: [General Feedback] Thoughts after first full playthrough

That, and the fact that plasma grenades shred 2 armour already. So against anything with 2 or less armour, plasma is strictly better, and against the rare enemies with 3+ armour, plasma is usually still better, since it does more damage and can take out their cover.
