Re: Please rethink this!

I like the idea of spending a perk to upgrade a normally unreliable source of crowd control to guaranteed or near-guaranteed status (similar to taking stun gunner on an assault), but if it requires giving up volatile mix (easily one of the most desirable perks in the entire grenadier tree), it won'...

Re: Please rethink this!

Why not add a perk to the Grenadier tree (and AWC?) that's an activated ability for boosting grenade proc chances, with a cooldown. Make it compete with Volatile Mix. This would bring the Fire Grenade's guaranteed control more in line with less overpowered sources of guaranteed damage/control.

Re: Questions about Dark Events.

Tac Sense made Advent Officers a lot more difficult, they have high HP to begin with and tend to hang back in full cover so the additional defense meant even my snipers were missing them! (though on reflection I had this hit before 1.3 I think, and 1.3 reduced the Tac sense defense buff I think?). ...

Re: Any way to change muton melee AI?

So how does the perk work? I always skipped it because it was never worth taking it on a gunner. But then I read about countering Mutons with shinobis placing next to them so I picked it on my newest shinobi. First mission he goes on i got in a hairy situation by making a bad activation and encount...

Re: aren't supply raids just too hard to detect?

I believe this is intentional. You're no supposed to be able to stop Advent from moving troops around with any sort of consistency. There is a possibility to detect them with longer times, but it's rare.

Negative damage bug

I've never seen this issue in my own play, but I have seen it on streams or let's plays once or twice. Recent reference from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/6ei1vz/negative_damage/ I don't know how to set up a robust test for this, but every time I've seen it, armour and damage reduct...

You can flashbang them to shut down their counterattack, though, right? So it's not always a mistake.

Re: Any way to change muton melee AI?

Bladestorm and Combatives do work together (Bladestorm is technically overwatch, so it happens before the attack actually occurs). Xwynns used a Gunner to Combatives tank a Muton while suppressing another in one of his recent episodes. So it's very strong in general, even getting to do it occasional...

Re: Any way to change muton melee AI?

You could make this a bit less exploitable by putting a 1-2 turn cooldown on the Muton melee attack. You can still expect to tank once, but you can't effectively lock down a Muton anymore by leaving a Combatives-equipped soldier sitting next to them. Doesn't require mucking around with the Muton's A...

Re: Aliens hitting me frequently through full cover

Again apples and oranges. As a coder of casino software you know that the software sets the machine to pay out after a certain amount of money has been made by the machine with said software. Comparing a casino which has fixed rules that show the illusion of chance is different to a game that is ba...

An it's fine that things like that happen "once in a while" like as in just about never and if it does happen to you once you can be pretty sure that it is likely never going to happen again. Casinos would love you. And I also like the apples and oranges you just gave. I've worked on casi...

Re: PI thoughts on mod that gives player vigilance information

A criticism I find reasonable is that there's no visible 'memory' on the screen, which is a PITA for people trying to remember where they've run ops after loading a campaign, and I've kicked around doing some kind of three-color clue (ie vigilance <=3 green; <=6 yellow; else red), but haven't convi...

Re: 1.3 balanced around squadwipes?

In terms of equipment loss, the same principle applies. Don't shuffle around your equipment so that one team has all the good gear and the rest have leftovers. Upgrade individual soldiers on each squad over time and have a mix of tech levels on each. Don't take equipment away from squad B just becau...

Re: An absurd ending...

Why are you even bringing Vigilance or Strength into it? The archive entry just says "Doing missions diverts attention from the Avatar project". The more missions you do, the slower it gets. You don't even need to know what Vigilance is for this entry to tell you what it needs to tell you.

Re: An absurd ending...

Wait that was talking about vigilance, I thought that was the generic call to arms in every game and most of those entries were hints for scrubby noobies to a strategy game. Better go back with my moon logic monoculars, this time. I'd accept this line of reasoning if the in-game archives weren't sp...

Re: Rocket scatter slightly weird(?)

IMO, the +/- in the overlay should be removed and it should be labeled as " AVG: 2.36 Tiles ", per the example above. Then the player would at least not blame the game for lying to them. The scatter on each axis is calculated separately, so I think this is what this is attempting to indic...

Re: What is the idea behind Crit Rangers?

The reliability of Crit Rangers is by far their most important quality. Firing multiple times per turn doesn't just increase average output, it smooths out RNG issues. Same for the crit stacking; once you get over 50% crit the graze band becomes an outright aim buff, and if you land a crit on the fi...

the general feel I am getting from my interactions with JoINrbs is that what the developers want to do is decided and that this feedback is pretty much a waste of time. They seem to want you to spend hours figuring out how their code works and accept that at anytime a single RNG can end your game a...

I would like to know how we should be able to deal if one or more strong enemies don't get affected by a flashbang, and if we don't have someone who can suppress. For example: 2 elite rocketeers who are far away each other and both resisted the flashbang. Should I let my team get entirely damaged b...

I'm pretty sure they are, technically? But it's a squad per haven advisor, since each squad can only be on one mission at a time, and being a haven advisor counts as being on a mission.

Do the Shredder Gun and Shredstorm Cannon even fill any kind of utility gap in Long War 2 the way they do in Vanilla? Should a piece of equipment give you a perk that outclasses class perks that take significant time investments to access per soldier? Even toned down, these weapons are just flat out...

I prefer them hidden. If you get the ideal AWC perks, they can be a bit OP, and the only thing balancing against that is the amount of time you need to spend sifting through less than ideal AWC perks and respeccing to take full advantage of the better ones.

Re: Changing infiltration math to balance small squad ops

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the intent is that a squad of 5 (or 4 if you've got excellent composition and stats) should be able to tackle Extremely Light and Very Light missions if approached very carefully. That's the impression I've picked up based on comments made by testers, anyway. The fac...
