Re: Is this a Bug or a Bad Joke?

Honestly, the biggest impression I'm getting from a lot of these posts is that 1.2 is really not doing a good enough job of driving home the lesson that doing missions in high strength regions is dangerous . The whole point of LW2 is that it's supposed to simulate a guerrilla war. You are NOT suppo...

Re: Is this a Bug or a Bad Joke?

The lesson you're supposed to draw from this is that doing missions in regions with Strength 7 or higher is not particularly safe. ... and ... When the reinforcements keep coming, turn after turn after turn, you should absolutely be thinking, "Get out of there, guys! Get to the evac! GO GO GO!...

Re: Is this a Bug or a Bad Joke?

I'm not sure "that's how traps work!" is relevant, here. The main issue is really whether or not this is fun. Lots of people like it, but lots of people don't. The reason why you don't see these shenanigans very often in games is not because it's a super clever idea that's very hard to com...

Re: [Edit]LW2 v1.2 just isn't fun YET

You had two complaints: too much stealthing, not enough Strategic layer info. Nope. It was much more than that. Then you should articulate your other complaints, because your original post gave four bullets: 1) "Successfully nagivate." This was a vague discussion about navigating "mi...

Re: [Edit]LW2 v1.2 just isn't fun YET

Alright, let's all take five. @hermescostell, there were some good points that you were almost able to make, but don't take credit for the discussion. A lot of the discussion here is really a continuation of criticisms made elsewhere by others. You had two complaints: too much stealthing, not enough...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

No, after 14 days, the aliens will still have 5 less Strength than they would have had if you hadn't liberated the region. Reinforcements come whether you liberate or not. Every region you liberate reduces strength by 5 for the rest of the game! I'm not sure it makes sense to think about regional d...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

Not quite. All Intel is only useful as long as you have enough squads to handle all the missions it throws at you. Detecting more missions than you can take (after discarding "bad" missions with too low timer or too high activity) is useless. All the subtlety of the strategic layer is to ...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

You don't do liberations for the strength/vigilance – that's just a nice side benefit. The primary benefit of liberating is that it gives you an enormous amount of resources (easily 1000+ supply worth of stuff from the HQ assault alone) and sets you up to safely and efficiently farm the region for ...

Re: An absurd ending...

Losing a game that you played for an hour can be a fun learning experience. Losing a game that you played for weeks is never fun. For you, that is. I, and many others, feel quite the opposite. I just enjoy playing games, I don't care much if I win or lose. If anything, losing is a challenge to impr...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

1) Liberating regions is AMAZING (but difficult). Liberating a region wipes 5 points of strength off the map, and gives a boost to vigilance in all regions around the liberated region. If you're way ahead of the aliens and have a ton of vigilance in the liberated region I guess this might possibly ...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

Well, the Tactical layer - 4/5 man infiltrations - I'm enjoying a great deal. The Strategy layer, though, I'm not really enjoying at all. It's just... there. Once you learn the system, there aren't really any choices to make. "Should I do this mission? If HQ, then no. Otherwise, yes." Done...

Re: An absurd ending...

Iunno man, if that's the prime directive, then I think what's over-complicating it is the in-game tip that tells you to skip some missions. I totally agree with your sidenote, though. The key is always letting the player answer the question, "What have I been doing wrong?" That's been my p...

Re: An absurd ending...

I'm still not sure what you're advocating here. I'm also not really sure what mechanic you think should be changed. You talk about 'suddenly losing the game due to hidden mechanics' - are you referring to the fact that the AVATAR project isn't revealed until you've liberated a region? Because I don...

I wasn't trying to brag by explaining how I figured out, I was just pointing out that it is in fact possible with the tools they have given us to figure it out without looking online. Sorry, I wasn't accusing you of bragging. Ironically, though, I was pointing out that it's not really feasible to f...

Re: An absurd ending...

The primary issue here as I see it is insufficient communication by both sides: the entry is slightly vague, I agree, but the players need to be more proactive in solving the puzzle themselves. I figured out vigilance well enough to not lose a Commander Ironman campaign, just by noticing the "...

Re: An absurd ending...

I'd accept this line of reasoning if the in-game archives weren't specifically called out as being Long War 2's equivalent to a manual in several places. We were all told to take the archives seriously as an explanation of the mod's mechanics. [AvatarProject_LW X2EncyclopediaTemplate] ListTitle=&qu...
