Re: 1.3 stealth concerns

I, too, will be disappointed if the LW2 answer to complaints about stealth play in 1.2 is just to steer away from it. I think a better balance would be found in fleshing out the stealth options in a more interesting way. It is possible - I think a mod like Tactical Suppressors has shown that it is ...

Re: 1.3 stealth concerns

(EDIT: this was for Bingo12345's response) Really? I thought the overall game was intended to be about guerrilla warfare/insurgency - why else have the strategic layer? - in which historically at least tactical combat was a last resort and a very poor option. At any rate, what is intended is irrelev...

Re: 1.3 stealth concerns

Agreed, we'll see how it actually plays but the tone of the discussion is a concern. Seeing stealth as "easier", or "avoiding" the "core game", is only persuasive from a specific perspective on game play. I enjoyed the stealth missions a great deal and they can be stres...

Undoubtedly. It just gets harder to rebalance the rest (difficulty, mobility incentives, etc) when reinforcements are becoming more central to the design.

Sigh. Reinforcements are my least favourite aspect of the game, for all the reasons that have been expounded on before. Will see how it goes but this sounds more frustrating than fun.

Re: Graphics

In the brief time I had last night to play a mission I got the 'slums' urban map (not sure what how it is designated in the ini) with lots of steam and broken crap. Spend more time than usual just looking around and man is it a nicely detailed, evocative setting. Not graphics as distraction, but eno...

Re: Graphics

It's a shame really. I can imagine the engine being licensed in interesting ways, but it seems the moment has probably passed. Firaxis has been awfully quiet, at least. One thing that always catches me is the torso detail on the muton's flexible suit, when you get the reaction animation - something ...

Graphics

Since we seem to be idling in anticipation of 1.3, it strikes me that XC2's graphics didn't get the praise they deserve in most of the reviews I read or discussions since. I've spent about a thousand hours now in XC2, more than nearly any other game in last half decade or so, and (a small) part of t...

Re: Yikes! Faceless overload

Hmm, thanks, Yanaek. I guess I've switched to engineers too soon after liberation and been relatively lucky in getting "theft" low enough overall I didn't bother looking for the last spy. I think I'll start putting in a good officer for a little while after lib. Thanks.

Re: What gameplay changing mods are you using?

I tried the suppressors mod and had quite a bit of fun with silent snipers and shinobi scouts. The decline in concealment with each shot is pretty well balanced (advanced suppressors being more effective, etc) and you can't be sure if you will be revealed with each shot after the first (assuming a f...

Re: Yikes! Faceless overload

I should know the answer to this, but haven't noticed before: if you liberate a region that had faceless spies in it, what happens to the spies? I'm sure I've never had a rendezvous mission in a (never lost) liberated zone before, but can it happen?
