Re: Building Tall?

I play on Veteran and Commander. I usually start by scanning one region until I get at least the engineer and scientist. By then I have the resistance comms and break out into three regions. I place all resistance workers on intel in each of these regions until I have the liberation missions started...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

I do, but for about a couple of hundred hours of Long War 1 and 2 I have never had I soldier captured. All of them found a gruesome end before I could even escape with the remaining soldiers (if any). There are too few stun/unconscious effects at the moment and too much focus on killing you outrigh...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

I agree with Sigeasol. LW2 is very immersive compared to WotC. I also find the complexity of LW2 much more engaging. I hope the Pavonis team can spin their magic on WotC in the future! <3 to the LW2 team. 8wayz, you do realize that captured troopers show up again in LW2 missions, right? I've had thi...

Re: Mimimi moments, or no regrets when reloading a save

Given the instability I've seen in the game, I have no problem saving it frequently and reloading from errors. I'm a beer and pretzels player and I play when I'm tired after a long day's work or whatever, so if I make an egregious error, I'll reload. For example, I'm sure you've experienced the move...

Re: LW2 v1.5 is Live

Can I download it into an existing 1.4 game? I'm very close to the end of my current game and would like to see how the 1.5 changes affect the endgame. Thanks for making LW2 such a fun mod. I've really enjoyed it! It would be harder to not download it. It is an auto-update on Steam to get it, and i...

Re: Assault class - how to effectively used them?

Assaults work particularly well with Shinobis. Shinobi scouts ahead to make sure the coast is clear, assault then has two choices. First, if the coast isn't clear, blue move up to cover and use the arc thrower to disorient or stun an opponent. Second, if the coast is clear, run and gun, move up to f...

Re: Veteran Diff, its December, how far should I be?

There are reports of people extending the campaign into the second year. You just need to control the Avatar project, meaning wiping every facility and jacking global vigiliance up. The reason people don't do that is because finding facilities means doing lots of risky low-timer hack missions. That...

Re: The bias of Not Created Equally

BTAxis, I appreciate your analysis and effort. However, you do realize that you can still have considerable bias in a random sample size of 100. So randomization tests are often done with sample sizes of 1000 or more.

Re: Proving Ground Weapon Upgrades

I tend not to bother with making upgrades through the Proving Grounds. Supplies are in too great a demand for other things such as improved weapons and armor. I find that the Proving Grounds tend to sit idle for much of the game. If they reduced the costs of the upgrades, they and the PG might be mo...

Re: Perks that are amazing if they were on a different class

Pistol skills work very well on sharpshooters. Their aim is high enough that they can actually hit and cause considerable damage on their targets. DfA sharpshooters work well, particularly if you score a kill, you can then use the extra shot from several of the pistol skills to finish off a wounded ...

Re: Coping with wildly unbalanced Haven Retals ahead of 1.5?

Not sure which mission type you're referring to. There are several that involve resistance workers. Is it the one where you have to destroy the Advent relay in order to stop the near constant flow of reinforcements? That one starts with Advent on the field, the number defined by the usual terminolog...

Re: No Reinforcement Farming vs No Experience

I thought about this issue some more as I was farming reinforcements this morning. Why not just give bonus XP scaled for finishing an objective early (by number of turns before reinf arrive or number of turns before mandatory exit)? There could also be extra incentive by reducing XP from kills after...

Re: Should I restart campaign?

I think I remember reading that you never want more than four on any task or it will cause a spike in Advent presence, but that might be an older build now. I usually have 4 supplies, 4 intel, and a couple on recruit until my haven hits 12. I also tend to hoard my loot, such as corpses and extra PC...

Re: Officer training

Take the trooper out of the oven first!

Is the trooper on a mission? Cannot select them if they're infiltrating, in a haven, in the AWC, or wounded.

Were you trying to promote the trooper? They have to attain a certain level to qualify for additional officer ranks past the first.

Re: Supply Missions

Something that's good to know. If you can complete the liberation chain up to the Network Tower mission, it will give you a free Radio Relay in the region that will improve the efficiency of all your rebel jobs by (i think) 20% which is significant. It will also rise Vigilance by a good amount so i...

Re: Can we have (old) Supply Raids back?

I'm in agreement with Green Pike. I liked the old supply raids. I'd usually attempt them at >40%. I've run two of them in 1.4 and it just didn't seem very fun. Maybe it was because I had ballistics and was facing down the command squad with seriously under-powered troops. Seems like these should hav...

Re: No Reinforcement Farming vs No Experience

I've tried farming reinforcements. It's really not that fun and rather boring. It doesn't really add that much xp in the scheme of things either. I think capping the xp and intel from kills is a reasonable solution. These could be capped at 2-3 times the number of Advent on the board at start for Go...

Looks like you're set up for a win. Re additional HQ liberation: I really like these missions so I tend to do 3-4 to completion. They also get easier with your troops gaining more experience and better armaments. Plus what's not to like about more supplies and materials and reducing the avatar timer...
