Re: The Evergame, UFO #1,000

Couple more tidbits - Took it to UFO 1,300 - Finally ended the game (couldn't bring myself to do the Battleship map again); 568 battles, 14,687 aliens killed, about 60 KIA. In the very late game, aliens have very high inherent defense, a Sectoid in the open is a 70-ish shot. Most of the killing is d...

The Evergame, UFO #1,000

Yep,

Finally made it to the 1000th UFO. 76 Colonels, 30 Firestorms, uncounted hrs playing, never bored. EXCELLENT game, needless to say, my all time favorite. Thank you for all the good work!

Re: PSA: I *think* I know why the game slows down...

That's the thing - I can't, as when I click on "recruit" the game makes a long pause, and starts to slowly generate the list of soldiers available, and then ctd. I believe the list is now so long it is what is slowing down the game. loading saves of the strategy layer take aeons, while tac...

PSA: I *think* I know why the game slows down...

If you're a player that likes to extend the game, you've probably noticed that load times increase as you keep going. However, it is most severe if you load off a Strategic save, if you load from a tactical save, it is not as bad. I stopped recruiting new soldiers a long time ago, and now, if I try ...

Re: Just finished my Veteran campaign, any advice before starting Commander?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but low infil missions was a cornerstone of my Legend campaigns - the payoff in xp is just too good! Yes it is risky, yes you'll probably have wounds/KIA, but overall I think it accelerates the development of your roster, and having soldiers rank up is THE priority ...

Re: Technical Flame Guy

Being a fan of Xwynn's "burninations", I tried the flame path hard, but the rockets are so much more versatile. I go all rockets except for concussion (I think those are not very useful, usually remain unused) - or - hybrid, my favorite, with shred and rapid fire.

Re: ...about Xwynn's near disastrous mission last night...

I guess the point is whether, late game, the extra mobility/less damage is worth it. For me, it is extremely rare to move to maximum range to seek a flank, the danger of activating is just too great, IMHO. So, if most of the time the extra mobility will not be used, is it worth the tradeoff in damag...

...about Xwynn's near disastrous mission last night...

Love to watch Xwynn's series, he is a very good player, however, I do have one pet "beef" with his style - smgs. I think smgs are an acceptable trade off in mobility vs damage early on, but as the campaign progresses, and aliens increase in hp, especially in Legendary mode, it is not susta...

It's great, but wonky, I used it in my previous campaign, but it did not work 100%, couldn't mod weapons or use PCS.

Re: Complete and utter Long War 2 domination looks like...

....btw, any "neutralize target" mission = assassination for me. I just never go for captures, too risky.

Also, on UFO missions, I activate/ambush when my squad is relatively close to the beacon, which MIGHT account for why so many turns left in timer.

Re: Complete and utter Long War 2 domination looks like...

Legend difficulty, July 2037. Have tried to go back to it, but game crashes too much. I wonder what makes the game keep increasing loading times & crashes.... I don't think there is THAT much of a difficulty spike between Commander & Legend, once you're in late game. Earlier it is significan...

Complete and utter Long War 2 domination looks like...

I am one of those guys that wants to extend LW2 to the maximum possible, play with all the top tier toys and stomp the aliens. To that end, I managed to play through July 2037 (419 battles - approx. 15/mo @ 17 aliens on average) and I could have played a lot longer, having the doom ticker at 9 when ...

Re: SPARKs Feedback

With all due respect to Xwynn, who is a very skillful player btw, I don't think he is a good reference as far as Sparks go. I am following his 1.5 campaign, and I think there is a flawed assumption that SPARKS must be "tanks". They are not. In fact, I don't think there is a "natural&q...
