Re: Psionics - which skills to pick in what order?

It's a balancing act between training speed and getting your psi ops to learn something useful relatively early so they are easier to bring on missions. Bear in mind you should have Trial by Fire officers by the time you get psi so you get 3 quick level ups and then you'll rank up much more slowly. ...

Re: 1.5 playthrough questions and observations

To your comments on rnfs and timers, bear with it. It just requires different tactics. Generally it means keeping on the move, not OW creeping. In particular, you need to recognise the differences between GOp types. There are a couple of mission types where you have to rescue people and then get the...

Re: Mimimi moments, or no regrets when reloading a save

Bugs. Misclicks. The before-the-consequence screw up when you meant to do something else but brainfarted and did the equivalent of putting your queen in front of Advent's pawn. Science. If I want to test perk interaction I'll give myself a mulligan in advance. Lame loss of concealment. So getting tr...

Re: Grenadiers suck.

Grenadiers do need proving ground projects to excel IME. I have found both pure right side and pure left side fairly weak. I don't think you're supposed to go all middle column, but rather dip in and out. I like a hybrid similar to joinrbs's build. Heavy ordnance to double up on fire grenades, volat...

Re: Stun Lancer - restricting unconscious status effect to already wounded units

Ha ok, didn't bother check but that was surprising as not matching the skill description. Yeah if you check the second level of perk description (under the little question mark), it lists everything except unconsciousness. I got bitten by this and apparently it's deliberate as PI doesn't like exact...

Note I don't think Solace does revive from unconsciousness. However Solace does break mind control. Restoration and revival work. Note I don't think Solace does revive from unconsciousness. However Solace does break mind control. Restoration and revival work. Also it is a will test, so at the margin, using focus PCS when you have nothing better could be considered. Lead by example and mind merge also boost will. Finally, grant...

Re: SPARKs Feedback

Combat awareness, or its LW1 equiv, was quite a good tanking perk on MECs. The enemy would shoot the MEC anyway but hit it less often and less hard. And in LW1 enemies didn't like to run OW so it helped control them too.

Never tried a Spark in LW2 so I don't know if that tactic is still effective.

Re: Let's talk Gunner

Gunners are not as crazy OP as they were but I still think they are decent. They do take a while to get going but are powerful once they do. I rolled a high mobility, lowish aim gunner from gatecrasher and decided to go OW/suppression build. With a hair trigger, lockdown and eventually CuP that's a ...

Re: Is it just me or is cover useless?

Remember the graze band as well. Their chance to at least graze you is 10% better than their headline chance to hit. So muton with 80 aim shooting at 0 defence soldier in full cover still has 50% chance to at least graze you. Cover is the bare minimum protection but you shouldn't feel safe unless yo...

Re: Arc Pulser Seems Week on Assaults

It's not a great perk tbh. I like using higher aim soldiers as arc thrower builds. Arc pulser is an ok long range option early on when I use a shotgun on him. Once I get to TSGT I like to take rapid fire and put a rifle on him, so pulser loses that functionality. But then by that stage in the game h...

Re: So much cool gear, unusued.

Viper rounds are getting cheaper. Gas grenades are getting AoE and damage buff. Vests are getting hp buffs. Troop columns at high FL are getting a chance to have all-alien pods instead of rainbow pods, so they are harder but more likely to give you corpses for high level toys. I think PI doesn't lik...

Re: Please rethink this!

The issue was that grenadiers are pretty weak except as incendiary mules, when they were OP. The buffs to gas and biggest booms is aimed at making other grenade types competitive. We thought about reducing incendiary damage but it was the guaranteed "I won't even have to think about that enemy&...

Re: (Sharpshooter balancing) Death From Above / Rapid Targeting / Snap Shot

I honestly don't think snapshot needs any more buffs. The range penalty for snapshot got reduced and there are no penalties if you shoot with the first action. (Granted you don't get the negation of squadsight penalty that DfA grants but that but easily offset with DGG and/or LW.) As for rapid targe...

Re: (Sharpshooter balancing) Death From Above / Rapid Targeting / Snap Shot

xwynns does comment to that effect. But that doesn't mean he speaks for all high level players (not that saying I'm high level). A DfA sniper is very situational. It is very powerful in the right situation, i.e. where you have elevation, long sight lines, and no time pressure. They are therefore goo...

Apparently that's a vanilla bug.

I also discovered that if you mind control a lancer and use it to knock another lancer unconscious, you don't get either corpse.

Re: Is having Reinforcements during Concealment a bug or intended?

GOps with fixed evac points such as jailbreaks, VIP rescues, dark VIPs and so forth, all have rnf timers independent of concealment. Hence the rnf indicator is already present as green at the start of the mission. The long timer is therefore not the constraint. You can expect rnfs after something li...

Re: Assault Rifle Assault builds?

I wish there was a way to use the double barrel shotgun instead of the arch thrower with a slow assault solidier. Then you can use the rifle most of the time, but run and gun for the occasional high powered shot. Yeah rifle works well with decent aim and arc thrower perks. Rapid fire is the key per...

It didn't used to. But in the 1.3 bugfixes section there's a line that now says they do. So they were intended to stack and should stack now. They should stack, yes, but I would still be careful with Fan Fire, I am not confident this ability would apply a status effect thrice. it won't, it uses mul...

Re: Where am I going off-track?

Guessing somewhat but it sounds like you're not doing enough missions. You should be doing every mission you reasonably can. Pretty much every soldier should be out on missions most of the time. When you get a retal and you have to go pull people out of a GOp, you're doing it right. Without that you...

Re: aren't supply raids just too hard to detect?

It's meant to be hard and hence unreliable to detect them. This campaign I've done two by July. Both needed boosting. They were 4 and a bit days and 5 and a bit days respectively. Do keep an eye out. I have an unconfirmed suspicion that the original display overstates the strength at 100% infiltrati...
