Re: Questions/feedback about Smash & Grab
S&G was made revealed start for balance and part of de-emphasising stealth from early versions of LW2. Very early game it's therefore a good idea to think one mission ahead. Shinobis are good on every mission type early on but if you only have one you might want to not deploy him on the first mi...

Re: AVATAR PROJECT QUESTION
The doomclock only appears after you liberate your first region. Which should be a fairly high priority. I would aim to get in done by end of July at the latest. As you found, you can still jack the officer before you liberate, so when you do liberate, the clock will be one pip less far along than i...

Re: I have forgotten to equip the recoilless rifle for eight missions in a row, please send help
In LW2, pretty much any upgraded secondary weapon is going to get forgotten a lot. Except for the mag shorty. I never forget the mag shorty.

Re: Questions/feedback about Smash & Grab
Yeah S&G reinforcements are different to other missions. They come hard and fast once they come. You need to be out when the timer runs down. Although note there is essentially a turn 0 on the timer: after 1 the RNF indicator goes red and so they actually start from the turn after that. And of c...

Re: Join the Pavonis Discord!
Well I'd love to. Except Discord has gone Epic Fail on me by insisting that I 'claim' my account but then telling me that the email I entered is already registered. Well duh.
I'll be over on X's discord if anyone is missing me for some reason.

Re: Dwarfling's Soldier Build Guide
I have room for exactly 1 holobot phantom sharp in my roster. Yes they are worse than shinobi on a Gop. But the beauty is they don't need to level up much to do their job, so you don't yave to run them on Gops. By SGT they do all you need them to. VPT is nice but not essential. Multi is unnecessary,...

Re: Dwarfling's Soldier Build Guide
Nice write-up. Couple of points of mild disagreement: Low aim holobot sharp is really nice with phantom, especially if he has decent movement and maybe access to covert or ghostwalker in the AWC. On bigger missions it's hard to get value out a shinobi as it's dangerous to run in and you want to pres...

Re: Question about Stun Lancers and Snakes
In EU if you got released from a seeker you would spend a turn heavily nerfed with 'catching breath'. Snake grab is obviously the X2 equivalent but I don't recall there being an equivalent of that, probably because they pull you out of cover to do it, and if he then couldn't move once freed he'd pro...

It's not out until next year. Their previous game Mordheim was regarded as flawed, though I never played it personally. Not a lot is really known about this new game.

Re: How long until you moved on?
I stopped for a month after I finally won a L/I campaign but have drifted back. More casual now probably and I find it tricky to get established in Legend (and don't want to go back). But still after well over 1000 hours it's more engaging than anything else. Looking forward to Phoenix Point. I've r...

Yes. Dead rebels. I think you lose contact. But you definitely don't lose the game and you won't need to liberate again even if that was your only liberated region.

Re: what's an average month to win by for players who are experienced at xcom, but not at longwar2? on veteran?
The logic of not libbing your starting region is twofold: 1) the network tower mission gives you a free relay but your starting region already has one, and 2) libbing drags strength to regions around it, which is not great if those are all your contacted regions. I think 1) is not a big deal because...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign
I use that technical build. It's decent. I would give a shout out for considering burnout though. If you pair it with fortify you can stand in the open and flame even with other enemies active (+40 defence plus crit protection). That often allows you to get a better flame on. Once you have incinerat...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign
I would echo the point about distinguishing between GOp types. DfA sharps are actually ok on straight extracts. Lots of rooftops and you don't actually have to go that far. But they are horrible on jailbreaks unless you get lucky with evac placement. Left side rangers and gunners are pretty good on ...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign
I would not advocate boosting ordinary GOps. Expanding sooner will probable be more valuable. Missing a mission isn't the worst. (Other mission types you might try with 2 soldiers, but probably not a van rescue as they usually bunch around the van.) I wouldn't flashbang a sectoid unless everyone's i...

Re: Any tips for using Kubikiri?
Interestingly enough, I ended up with an Assault with Kubikiri in the AWC. Of course he got that training and turns out it was really handy in one mission as I ran into a sectopod with no real way to quickly kill it. Since shotgun assaults (is there any other kind?) crit pretty much every shot, he ...

Re: Any tips for using Kubikiri?
Along with the other crit raising devices, I've taken to having my Psi Operative work in tandem with my snipers. Mind Merge is good for +20 crit. Seems a bit more versatile than bringing a holobot. Yes that is also a a good solution that I've used in other campaigns. I would only caveat that holobo...

Up to a point. Kubi is most worthwhile on things that don't take cover, ie gatekeepers, sectopods and superheavy MECs.bingo12345 wrote:Grenadier with cover destruction tree will help kubikiri sniper. grenadier's grenade hurts the enemy and blows cover(+40% crit to kubikiri)

Re: Any tips for using Kubikiri?
I take kubikiri on my dfa sniper. I then give him every possible crit perk and item, including packing a laser sight instead of a scope. I then pair him with a holobot sharp, who compensates for lack of scope and also boosts crit chance. That is particularly worthwhile on legend, where not only are ...

Re: Legend ironman successful campaign report
Maybe. In commander I have gone psi in mid game when I felt I didn't have enough soldiers and non-psi squaddies are too much of a burden. In this one I didn't really ever feel short of soldiers. I didn't lose that many early on and you just don't need a huge roster in late game. Also late psi will s...

Re: Legend ironman successful campaign report
I'm really surprised that you had problems with the Blacksite. The mission tends to be much easier than intended because the schedules are broken. To be clear I only had difficulty because I didn't know there was an absolute rnf timer. I thought it was just the ones triggered when you grab the vial...

Legend ironman successful campaign report
Finally beat LW2 Legend pretty much ironman. Savescummed a couple of Jake's stealth civ reveals, couple of misclicks, quite a few bugs, but that's about it. Sucked up all the bad RNG and unfortunate activations. No gameplay mods, unless you count gotcha again and tactical killcounter, which I could ...
