Retaliation minimum rebel numbers in haven

If I remember correctly, it used to be common knowledge that you could avoid full retaliations by having no more than 4 rebels on any job and mini retaliations by having no more than 5 rebels on a specific job (modified by faceless, who count double). However, looking at the ufopedia article, it loo...

Best region to liberate?

Starting to pay more attention to the strategic layer. Is the relative position of liberated regions an important consideration? For example, would you rather liberate one with 2 neighbouring regions or one with 4? Also, is it a bad idea to liberate a region on the border of a region which already h...

Re: Implacable Rangers

Thanks for the feedback. I've tried Implacable by now and like it a lot. Re-positioning after the first shot offers great versatility, especially on timed missions. Even though the crit skills are probably prone to being underestimated (I rarely notice when they "activate" and affect the o...

Re: Best time for HQ assault?

I've used a full squad of 10 in my past games.
Overkill? I'm considering taking only 8 to cut down infiltration time. Advent Strength is 4. What is the general consensus?

Best time for HQ assault?

In your experience, would you do the the liberation chain asap or only after certain technologies are researched? I have, once again, waited till my squad had regular lasers and predator armor (in May) - but I wonder if the increased alien power offsets this advantage. Is there a "best attack b...

Implacable Rangers

I used to take "Bring 'em on" for my Infantry Rangers at Tech-Seargent rank to maximize crit-potential, but now I wonder if "Implacable" might be a better option. Some extra mobility to get further into the action (or out of it) sure sounds tempting.

What is your experience?

Suicidal snakes

I just had a snake standing next to a car on the brink of explosion tongue-pull one of my troops in, thereby killing itself and the soldier. Which I found a stupid way to die. My question: Do aliens have any awareness of imminent explosions? If so: Can the gamefiles be altered to make them quit such...

Re: An alternative way of handling infiltration and mission types

Congratulations, your game penis is larger than mine, and nothing challenges you. [...] What happened to the giant game penis you bragged about 6 sentences ago? [...] Apparently that is the experience you're after. [...] That makes more sense than advocating that the entire mod is rebalanced to cat...

Re: An alternative way of handling infiltration and mission types

Frankly I'm 100% against any forced deployment systems. Fix the mission, don't tell me that my squad isn't tall enough to ride. Yes, that might actually be enough to get rid of over-stealthing. I was also offering this alternative as a means of fixing 0% exploits and making the game easier to under...

Re: An alternative way of handling infiltration and mission types

Gatecrasher is a tutorial to immediately teach you that you will die if you try vanilla XC2 tactics in LW2. It's survivable IFF you understand the mechanics of LW2. How many times did we all immediately restart after getting spanked badly on Gatecrasher the first few times we played it? For me, I'd...

Re: An alternative way of handling infiltration and mission types

Do you really consider it reasonable to be able to field 8 rookies with heavy weapons on day 2 and survive any non-stealth mission? I don't. That's ridiculous. If that's the game you want to play, they already made it. It's called XCOM 2 without LW2 installed. Erm...no. I never said that. I said so...

An alternative way of handling infiltration and mission types

The problem with overpowered stealth missions and 0% supply raids mainly lies with the infiltration system. Apart from the fact that it is easier and faster to stealth a mission than to do it "properly" (e.g. because of reinforcements), there are way too many missions your intel guys catch...

Improving item selection and troop management

All in all, the whole squad select process is *very* clunky at the moment. I basically check every detail on every soldier before going on a mission. You ususally have to juggle armor, weapons, utility items and upgrades so much that it might actually be less time consuming to start with a completel...

Re: Officer training times and using squads

To me, "A team" doesn't exist, because one squad of soldiers can't do every mission type with the same efficacy Then A-Team probably is the squad you'd do 0% Raids and Golden Path missions with, I guess. This is especially annoying since the squad management itself has more downs than ups...

Officer training times and using squads

One aspect of LW2 I never made use of is the squad system. Most of the time, I've found it more distracting than useful, mainly because I end up sending out different combinations of soldiers more often than not (except maybe in case of the alpha team). At first, I thought I might be playing the gam...

Re: Weapon upgrades

The discussion about two mediocre shots vs one good one is squad dependent. For me I have a sniper who can simply take care of one target on the first turn and leave another mid-range one for the Marksman with the stock on the second one. And I will only Steady the weapon on the Marksman Grenadier ...

Re: Weapon upgrades

Timers make autoloaders extremely relevant and to me one of the most powerful and desirable weapon mods. If I just had to recommend a quick and dirty 3 mod layout without knowing any details, it would look like scope - autoloader - expanded magazine. You can do better knowing more details, but I th...

Re: Weapon upgrades

Let's get back to the original purpose of this thread: Improving the weapon upgrade system. LW2 has already made it more diverse (at least on one particular level) in giving us three different mods that improve aim in three different ways: Scopes (for non-overwatch shots), Hair Triggers (for overwat...

Re: Weapon upgrades

If instead you have an Adv. Autoloader, which I would rate as probably allowing 2 extra shots in a mission, at 70% hit chance that's worth hitting 1.4 extra shots. I have a feeling that you're giving the autoloader too much (or at least too specific) credit in this particular case. On gunners, it w...

Re: Weapon upgrades

I think the main reason for the discrepancy between your calculations and in-game experience is that you are making them in vacuum, not considering that the Stock-wielding soldier is part of a squad. No vacuum here (God, I'm starting to hate that term, so overused on this forum), just basic probabi...

Re: Weapon upgrades

As you clear cover it would be better if someone, like a Sniper with Serial or two Rangers, can clear the rest of the pod. On the next turn the Grenadier can again Salvo + Shot someone who is still in cover and the +45/50 additional Aim will negate that high cover bonus. Or you could salvo and shoo...

Re: Weapon upgrades

The Stock can be used to some effect on Grenadiers and Technicals, as they have limited supplies of explosives during a mission. I have a Grenadier with Damn Good Ground (AWC) who wields a rifle and am looking for a stock to put on him. Thus, with an Elite Stock, on higher Elevation and with either...

Re: Weapon upgrades

Just as a bit of nitpick, there's a possible situation where a stock would take you to 100% chance to hit, in this case the certainty of the 100% hit can outweigh two less-than-100% hits especially if it's a scary target. I'm now wondering how the graze band affects this whole line of thought. If I...
