For me there are two jobs the rangers do. Volume fire via light em up and rapid fire, to shoot three times per turn. This makes them good at the big hp low defense bad guys. Even without keeping it, being on a separate timer to haywire is useful and a super heavy mech with damage control makes a great mission long tank.

I think once you get the vial out the massive rnf's stop, I did this mission as a hybrid, the team killed most stuff while someone snuck round the back to get the vial.

+1 to liking rangers due to fire three times, I also get a lot of use out of walk fire as a ghetto combat protocol (although it is no hail of bullets)

A rework of the mission difficulty scaling so that it does't just add more enemies, perhaps give each tier a chance to either add an enemy, add hp, add armor, add aim. With the change to add enemies being high at lower alert level but the chance to add hp/armour/aim increases at higher difficulties....

also with the mini retals the supply one is easier because it is usually a bigger map, which means lower enemy density, which for me at least is the key driver of difficulty

what does it take to reliably remove a tree and the resulting stump (which still provides cover) sapper and combat engineer with plasma grenades does seem to do it....

Picking up a dark-VIP says it will end turn but does not

If you go to pick up an unconscious (subdued) VIP it says it will end the turn in the UI description, but it doesn't, it does not even cost an action to pick them up.

I have no issue with the way it works, but it would be helpful if the "ends turn" text could be removed.

It seems to me that it is enemy density that drives difficulty rather than number, 50 bad guys on a huge map is easier than 30 on a small map. We get a fair bit of warning on the numbers before a start of a mission, could we have the same warning about the map size?

I've also heard talk that suppressors reduce weapon sound range and that some items generate sound from the player location rather than the the explosion location.

People also talk about rockets being very loud, but that table does seems to put it only at a few more tiles over grenades.

hobbes on ufopaedia has done some great work laying out the stats of the various mk1/2/3 guys here:

I had the same thing on a facility mission.
Hacked a drone from concealment, trojan virus tiriggered, then all pods stopped moving.
Best guess is that something cleared the pod jobs.

I've never seen it work with a ranged attack to be honest.
Attacked two different damaged sectopods, in both cases got a yellow critical hit display for 14 damage with a coil sniper rifle that left then with 20 odd hp left.
14 hit is not half damage so it must have proc'd but 20hp left is not dead.

Gunner probably, can kill things and destroy cover.


Disagree about the specialist, if you have a pod with no mechanicals your basically hoping not to run out of combat protocol to win and at best can kill one thing per person per turn.

The change list for 1.2 looks long enough already that my preference (for the little it is worth) is that they just QA it, get it out and leave the balance for 1.3, that way known bugs get fixed ASAP.

That's a good point about the solider time cost of infil.
