Re: Close combat assaults and sword shinobis seem useless
A common mistake is to charge forward with your Shotgun Assault, activating more pods. They're far more useful close to your main line, for quickly taking out a more serious threat, like the 1 Muton in a pod of advent, or one of those dang MEC before they launch a rocket barrage at you. Sword shinob...

Re: Is Skull-mining still in the game
I don't remember exactly, I think it appears after you defeat the codex, or maybe after you research the codex brain. It's definitely in there though.

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
I can't wait to try my Arc Assault... I haven't tried to spec one yet, but it's something I'm looking forward to. Just have to promote a rookie assault a bit. I can see that a snapshot marksman might be beneficial if their movement was sufficiently high. Usually I train fairly average or low movemen...

Re: Opinion on Rocketeers
As you mentioned in the other, somewhat redundant thread, Rocketeers as long range, high yield artillery pieces, with limited ammunition, makes them a viable and interesting alternative to Grenadiers. Introducing rocket slots to parallel to grenades might be difficult to code, and make the Rocketeer...

Re: Dark Events in LW2??? Seriously?
Some Dark Events are permanent. There is a mod, An Easier War, which makes permanent Dark Events last 2 months at most. It preserves some of the difficulty without it totally snowballing.

Re: Opinion on Rocketeers
The concussion rocket would be much more useful if it was a long range large AoE flashbang. I would definitely take it then, even without the stun.

Re: Reworking the Technical
With a Medical Specialist, you can just use Revival Protocol to negate a stun. Sometimes it works to your advantage, as often times the AI will ignore a stunned soldier in favour of active targets, leaving an otherwise exposed guy alive. Also once your guys get a few rankups, it tends to miss anyway...

Re: Reworking the Technical
I have had situations where I wanted to I had to concentrate overwatch fire and cover on one side of a shed or the other, so I flamed the alley that I didn't want to worry about. In that case it didn't actually work for some reason, the flamethrower bugged out and managed to hit an ADVENT office beh...

Re: Reworking the Technical
Having made more effort to use my Technical's flamethrowers, I find that even with the range buff, they are far too inconsistent in dealing damage or setting fires. That said, using them to deny ground is surprisingly effective. I have used the flamethrower a few times now to deny a flank, or preven...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
It seems like a missed opportunity if the sharpshooter class is limited to the Sniper Rifle only. Most other classes have multiple options, excepting the Gunner. I might have to mod the mod to allow it myself. Unless the sniper rifle behaviour is inherent to the class rather than the weapon. I was t...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
I'm going to retrain that Sharpshooter as a Spotter build. Hopefully I can equip a Rifle or something instead of the default Sniper Rifle. The Marksman might be more palatable if they could shoot twice or had some other benefit. They're just clearly the worst option for the Sharpshooter class, espec...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
With regards to rangers, I regularly get 50-60% shots on injured troopers in full cover. It's a good way to finish them off. Re: Rifle Shinobi, I haven't tried that, because most of the time the mobility hit reduces their usefulness too much. Low profile is an AWC must though. It increases the survi...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
Was going to post a new thread, but it seems worth mentioning here: I have just noticed (by taking two sharpshooters on one mission), that Snapshot applies a significant penalty, even when the Sharpshooter with it has not yet moved that turn. IMO this is a seriously bollox penalty, that actually mak...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
A few notes on the classes: Suppression builds for gunners are very powerful for locking down clusters of relatively weak enemies, like advent troopers. This is the dedicated role of most of my gunners. Shinobi are very good at slicey dicey, but this can leave them exposed if you aren't careful. Ver...

Re: Thoughts on revealing the AWC soldier perks?
I like having the AWC perks hidden. I play with the fixed class perks shown, because they're the same for everyone so it's just pointless and frustrating otherwise. Finishing an AWC perk and seeing what's next is like Christmas morning :) The way I play though, to make best use of the officers, is w...

Re: Is the Trench Gun Perk Useful?
Part of the problem may be that the Assault trooper I have Trench Gun on is relatively low mobility, so it's often difficult to rush her up to good flanking positions. Thanks for the info Manifest! I will keep it in mind. I would tend to never move my assault trooper into the position shown in the v...

Re: [Suggestion, Question] Squad Upgrades
I'm not sure how you'd balance that in LW2, as resource management is a large part of the strategic layer. You also have a lot more soldiers than you would have in vanilla Xcom2. For example, if Laser Pistols cost 5 supplies each, and you have 50 guys, could you reasonably expect anyone to pay 250 s...

Re: Reworking the Technical
The Technical is an interesting class. The rocket has the potential to be devastating when you really need it. I started off hating the flamethrower, but having implemented the +1 range fix, it makes them a very interesting support class. An on fire enemy is essentially disabled, especially melee fo...

Re: Is the Trench Gun Perk Useful?
Having tried to use it again, in what I thought was the perfect circumstances, I found it deeply underwhelming. The cone told me it was going to hit 3 guys, and despite Perfect Information informing me that it had a 100% chance to hit, 0% crit, 10% dodge, it totally ignored the back two (who were be...

Re: I miss the Longwar 1 different gun options
I never played LW1, but some of these sound like they could do with porting. Personally I find the SMGs very underwhelming, and usually give my shinobis a laser pistol as soon as I have them unlocked. The Carbine in particular seems like a good option, as there are many classes (specialist, technica...

Re: Is the Trench Gun Perk Useful?
I finally had an opportunity to use Trench Gun last night, it was ok. It suffers from many of the same problems as the flame thrower, it's very situational. It's very rare for a pod to be lined up for shots, atleast for me. It's too short ranged for a decent ambush opener aswell. I will continue to ...

Re: QOL Request: Squad Icon on the roster overview
If this could be added, it'd be a nice little bonus. I also have some trouble remembering who is in what squad, if any. That said, most of the time you can just go to Squad View in the squad manager, and manage the soldiers that way. Slightly more tedious, but it works.

Is the Trench Gun Perk Useful?
I'm not 100% sure about the name of this one, as I am not ingame, but I am talking about the shotgun perk with the cone effect. I took it on one of my assault troops, and I have not once used it. It's seems to me far too difficult to get any kind of useful shot with it. The cone is very narrow, the ...

Re: Covering Fire as a lvl 1 Offensive AWC perk
Thanks for the heads up. It'd be nice to have it as an ingame option rather than a hidden config, but it'll do for me
I'm not sure if I should set it to 25% or 30%? 25% is a nice round number, but for some reason 30% feels good too.
