Sounds like you were lucky not being detected considering the insane detection radius of drones at 0% infiltration. You're right however that it's often (rather than always) possible to find a decent high ground if you're willing to spend some time exploring the map on supply convoys, reaching them...

However, this could also be due to my other big complaint: Supply Raids and Troop Columns meant I was swimming in Resources. It's way too easy (once you get ahead of the aliens) to go in with 10 soldiers at 0% infiltration and kill ~50 aliens. Once you can handle an 8-pod, whether there are 3,4 or ...

You can choose to always fight and when you pick missions choose ones that facilitate this, although it is not optimal so you'll want to lower the difficulty if you do. And later in the campaign you do fewer stealth missions even playing optimally. Also try putting everyone on Intel and just doing S...

They are still very strong. Most (all?) of their attacks ignore a lot of combat alien upgrades like defense or dodge so they scale well late game. Yeah, you roll on dice on their powers and it's possible to get a little bit screwed, but we're dealing with crazy psychics here.

I think those types of tweaks are pretty easy to make yourself with the .INI files. At least you should be able to find something close enough, like Psi Training Time.

So it probably wouldn't be appropriate while 2k is putting up funds, but if/when that source of funding expires, I know I'd be happy to chip into a monthly Patreon for general Long War work, even if it's only a part time thing at that point.

It's not intended for reinforcement, but it is intended for pods that wander into range on their turn. If they are 'yellow alert' because they just heard a loud noise, then they can get a couple of free shots.

I agree generally that stealth is slightly too good on some of those maps. Or too reliable at least -- it should be possible to pull off a stealth win as you describe, but I shouldn't be able to count on missions going that way. Oh please don't ask the devs to put some random out-of stealth system ...

In contrast to all the eager beavers here... 1.0 is perfectly playable and fun now. Rushing software is terrible. Crunch is terrible. My 1.1 patch feature request is for the Long War team to take a break and go for nice hike.

Are you installing the old Long War mods alongside Long War 2? You only want one single mod installed, 'Long War 2'.

Arguably it's fun to have crazy OP Psi stuff in the late game like dominating a gatekeeper having it practically solo a level for you. Army of Zombies! But I bet the crazy good testers used to Long War I/I either nerfed that stuff, or the end game is hard enough that it works out.

Were you able to add tiers of weapons to the Spark and to other DLC that just use the same models? That wouldn't bother me one bit. It's nice to have custom graphics but the gameplay is what matters.
