Instead of grenade launcher just have it be a single-round shotgun, same as the Ranger uses. So once per mission if your rifleman ends up point-blank to something they can inflict a single, high damage attack against it. 40mm grenades seem far too OP, especially considering that you're talking about...

Do they provide any bonus besides reduced intel for connecting? Because even building one costs more supply than the frikkin' shadow chamber. Which seems kind of silly for a kitbashed pile of metal that would look more at home in Fallout than in XCOM.

Oh it can be deactivated on Steam. Make sure game is set to not auto-update. Go into the game files, move the DLC folders into ZIP files, delete folders.

Oh man you are missing out, then. The trick to assault class is to skip the shotgun and just use a regular rifle and treat them like a very fast ranger with an arc thrower. Opps, looks like the map maker decided to put a table in the same spot that the VIP spawned in, and now they're stuck in place and can't move at all.
Probably another Firaxis mistake, but maybe you guys could find a way to fix it anyway?
