I'd take Rangers if I had to choose. The volume of fire is enormous, they have Shotguns as a frigging secondary, Walk Fire deals with cover, you can Overwatch spec and ambush the crap out of things. There can definitely be unrevealed Faceless because one of the 1.1 bug fixes was stopping it from removing all Faceless, not just the ones actually found.

The boltcaster seems to be purely about the stun. I'd recommend giving it to a Specialist or Grenadier who is not specced for rifle use. Personally I don't use it at all. The boltcaster seems to be purely about the stun. I'd recommend giving it to a Specialist or Grenadier who is not specced for rifle use. Personally I don't use it at all.

It's 20 turns from breaking concealment, so if you play slow it could be turn 57 before they show up.

Yeah, the Faceless hunt is actually a standard alien mission that runs for a very long time, and points for detecting it can only be accumulated by soldier advisors. An advisor provides progress towards this every six hours, and the pool is stored in the mission, not the soldier, so it doesn't matte...

Grazing Fire doesn't interact with the shot breakdown at all. It's a separate 50-Dodge% chance to Graze after the attack has been confirmed to be a miss.
Displaying the Graze chance would be handy however because Crit and Dodge will make it not always equal to exactly +/-10.

Playstyle may factor in as well. If you're used to using explosive to strip armor off of pods, then the point of penetration on the coilguns is moot and plasma is fully superior. I do not think they make sense for starting research projects, as there are already the main requirement for the Proving Grounds. Yeah, Xwynns noticed it in his Let's Play. Any MEC can fire with unlimited range and no LoS required.

E.X.O. suit, Javalin Rockets, Shinobi spotter and you can crack two major pods and still have the flamer shots for mop up on later turns. I bring two on major missions for four cover-demolishing, pod crushing shots. Rangers can mop up easily after that.
