Re: XCOM 2 expansion + Long War 2: Nothing to announce

@Desslok - I think you are missing the main point - original Xcom 2 and Long War 2 are meant to be different beasts. Xcom 2 is a more casual game, where you can easily tailor your campaign to your playstyle, while Long War 2 is a hardcore experience where you will need to adapt to a different dynami...

Re: Last on in July, wonder what happened

Noober - It really depends depends on the risks associated with that mission. Some of the key ones, for example Sabotage, have a high Ambush chance and I always send experienced soldiers on those. Also new Covert Ops can be added as part of Long War 2 where the Op ends always in a given mission (cho...

Re: Region Recapture

Assign a soldier as an adviser and he will eventually recruit a rebel. It might take about a month though, so be patient.

There is no way to transfer rebels from other regions.

Re: Last on in July, wonder what happened

@Lord Yanaek - There is some strategic thought in War of the Chosen. The new Covert ops let you choose what you want to do. For example Noober went with all of the promotion-grabbing ones to quickly level up someone to Major. I choose to use Sabotage a lot in my campaign, thus prolonging it. There a...

Re: Last on in July, wonder what happened

Hm, I am not sure that War of the Chosen is unbalanced. I am also playing on Legendary and some of the relation missions feel more unfair than a Swarming+++++ HQ Assault mission in Long War 2. You get multiple Berskers (at least 3), Chryssalids, a Chosen, some Faceless, one or two MECs for good meas...

Re: Last on in July, wonder what happened

Long War 1.5 fixes quite a few bugs and makes progression more granular. It is still a more difficult game compared to War of the Chosen though. :) The main change is that a few items do not require so much resources to build now, namely corpses. War of the Chosen is just a fresh start. :) It is wor...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

@stefan3iii It is called consistency. Infiltration makes it so you are less consistent, both on Geo- and Battlescape with your tactics and equipment. However, the way it does it is postpone each and every mission and make you wait for it. There is another similar issue - if you manage to research so...

Re: XCOM 2 expansion + Long War 2: Nothing to announce

Bonding at level 2 gives you +15 aim at a target that is attacking or has attacked one of your bondmates. I have a Reaper + Sharpshooter duo and the Sharpshooter regularly gets +15 aim due to this. In general those special soldiers are mostly to be used on key missions and against the Chosen (as the...

Re: XCOM, LW and RNGesus

I am chimming in to offer some counter-points, if you will. :) - Repeaters and hair triggers never really punished you in any way in terms of RNG. They only helped you if you had a good one (much like the Incendiary grenade right now in Long War 2). - The way provided to deal with early challenges i...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

Thank you for the mod suggestion. I just wanted to point out that Long War 2 in particular could benefit from some of the ideas in War of the Chosen, especially the one about letting a soldier get captured to get rid of the Chosen that is attacking you on that mission. Same can be reproduced for cer...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

I do, but for about a couple of hundred hours of Long War 1 and 2 I have never had a single soldier captured. All of them found a gruesome end before I could even escape with the remaining soldiers (if any). There are too few stun/unconscious effects at the moment and too much focus on killing you o...

Re: How would you want the Skirmisher adapted for LW2?

Bullups have more ammo and better damage compared to an SMG.

For comparison:
Ballistic SMG:
Damage: 2-4
Ammo: 2
Grants +3 mobility

Ballistic Kal-7:
Damage: 3-4
Ammo: 3

Granted, they look similar, but in general the bullup rifle is better.

Re: How would you want the Skirmisher adapted for LW2?

In Long War 2 each tier gives a specific secondary effect. So you will still be missing on that effect and also the breakthrough is a lot faster to research than the next tier. Keep in mind that each tier is separated into two techs - main and specialized weapons (cannon, sniper rifles, Spark weapon...

Re: How would you want the Skirmisher adapted for LW2?

I would prefer actually if they do not spend time and manpower on making laser and coil variants of the special weapons (like the Alien hunter ones), but they did keep the special breakthroughs. There are breakthroughs that give +1 damage to each of the 3 main tiers. Thus the special weapons can rem...

Re: Adaptations for LW2 for WotC

There are some big issues with your suggestions. - Making perks akin to Path of Exile. In that game, since it is action-orientated, you have a lot of levels and it makes sense that you have a lot of perks that complement each other. On the other hand, in XCOM 1 or 2 you have 7 promotions and that is...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

Frankly speaking, both are good. I find the War of the Chosen retaliation missions, where almost always one of the Chosen is leading them, a lot more fun than the relations in Long War 2. Also the one on which you get resistance members to fight with you is great. The new enemies also make for a gre...

Re: Future of shinobi?

Gene-modded soldiers in Long War 1 had higher fatigue due to the mods (sometimes up to 3 more days of fatigue). That was balanced since every soldier could get those mods, including Psi-ones. However, when you have Hero-classes which have 1 or possibly 2 of each one on your roster, the sheer fact th...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

To expand on my suggestion, infiltration time could be spent both removing and adding a SITREP. Each mission will have a random list of SITREPs (that make sense for it to have) and let us say every 50% of Infiltration you will get one SITREP point. When starting the mission a new window could appear...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

@Sarge - That is how the Fatigue system currently works in War of the Chosen. You can take tired soldiers and at the end of the mission they become Shaken for a few days and get a negative trait most of the time (for example Fear of XYZ). The system works great in game actually, as in you get soft p...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

It will prohibitevily difficult to cannibalize the new classes. Most of their perks are tied to their weapon and secondary item (Ripjack, Claymore, Mag pistol). Also Claymore (the ability) is granted by the item, not by a perk. So they will need to separate the ability from the item and create a new...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

Sarge, getting ability points is not as easy as it sounds. I am currently playing on Legendary and the Warlock decided to lead a retaliation mission. On the turn I actually activated the Warlock, on the map there were: - 3 Berserks, almost up to full health ; - 1 Advent MEC; - 2 Stun Lancers; - 1 Fa...

Well, the aliens are trying to reinforce their remaining regions and since you are up to Lib 5 in 5 of those, you are generating a lot of Vigilance due to this. When you get to Lib 4 and Lib 5 especially, the aliens start reinforcing the region with all they have. If there are no suitable regions ne...

1) Red fog should reduce stats by percentage, though I have not looked at the files yet how and which stats. Even at 1 HP that unit should still be able to shoot and hit you. 2) As pointed, Movement is on the same level as HP on the Not Created Equally scale. So you should still get some fast soldie...

Re: XCOM 2 expansion + Long War 2: Nothing to announce

Unless you haven't made notice of it, 2K's strategy is actually great this time around compared to Xcom 1. They commission a great mod that has devoted followers and make it so it comes out about an year after the original game and just after the Steam winter sale. Then 6 months later, while everyon...
