Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

Buffs to a lot of weak perks are quite nice (formidable, snap shot, implacable, coup de grace, covering fire) Nerfs look solid. RIP shadowstrike pistoliers. I think Hit and Run will be too powerful now, it's an auto-pick at that tier, and probably any tier on any tree. It was one of the strongest pe...

Re: LW2 Strategic Layer: Managing Strength and Vigilance

If you have a high strength region with lots of rebels, just put them all on supply. A 13 rebel region will generate something like 300-500 supplies, depending on rebel level/radio tower/engineer. You'll also generate supply retaliations, which are super easy missions to farm XP.

Re: "Stealthing Network Tower Missions"

Thanks, I had missed that post. Is an interesting idea I hadn't thought but I fear that maybe in the assault's run to the relay we could activate lot of aliens, while we are already fighting and lot of aliens could stack between the assault and the squad and we could be not able to rejoin the team....

Re: "Stealthing Network Tower Missions"

Deploy an strange tactic. In fact the only one that I think can work (the shinobi strategy previously mentioned). This tactic also works well, I mentioned earlier in the thread: 1) Bring an assault and an officer with Oscar Mike. 2) Stealth your entire squad safely as far as you can into the map. U...

Re: Lets nerf armor shredding

I'm not sure why people see Shredder as 'weaker'. It's quite strong late game, as is made obvious by the existence of this thread. I view the perks at this tier as being relevant at each of the stages of the game. I think it would be better if shredder cannons weren't so much more effective at shre...

Re: If you could "rig" the AWC...

I haven't actually tried it but R&G on a sniper might allow him to take two separate shots in combination with DFA. (So you can shoot, kill, DFA kicks in, activate R&G, then shoot again.) Pretty handy if true, like a mini-serial earlier in the game. Yes this works, I got Run And Gun on a DF...

Re: Lets nerf armor shredding

The first is relevant, as the various difficulties do indeed play rather differently. The others seem more like just elitist nonsense that shames a player for not being as skilled as others here on the forums (and being a Legend Ironman player is a high bar indeed!) When players give feedback on a ...

Re: Lets nerf armor shredding

Except it competes with 2 other really strong perks, so I never take it. I'd rather see shredder ammo be buffed to work like the perk, because right now it might be the worst ammo type, since it always only shreds 1 armor.

Re: Question on protect supply convoy

This is 100% incorrect, at least historically (1.2 may have changed things). My campaign that was begun during 1.1 experienced pre-existing pods on supply retaliations. There is no mistaking this, my squad moved and found aliens hiding under a cliff, on my first turn. It's entirely possible that 1....

Re: Question on protect supply convoy

I've played a million of these missions, on Legendary, because I like to put a lot of rebels on supplies in mid\late game. There are no preplaced pods on protect supply convoy missions. You'll have 2 pods reinforce the turn after your first. Next you'll have 1 pod reinforce two turns later, and then...

Re: 0% Supply Raids are... really hard

0% supply raids, like all timer-less missions, is about picking a good place to fight, and bringing a shitload of damage to clear pods quickly. 10 soldiers can clear or control a 16 enemy pull if they're specced right. For example: 2 sting grenadiers 4 gunners 2 DFA sharp shooters with stocks. 2 ass...

Re: Is the 'Beagle maneuver' still cheap?

It's very strong, and is going to be your opening out of stealth 90% of the time, especially early game, mid game, and in rendezvous missions. It's especially good if you can set it up so that the enemies walk point blank up to shotgun users, and spot them on a flank. If they have CCS then GG for th...

Re: What are your ways to manage black market/render?

I avoid selling elerium and alloys, they become bottlenecks in the mid and late game for equipment. Muton elite corpses are really valuable as they make carapace armor and dragon rounds, though the game is usually over by then anyway. If elerium cores are in demand early then I sell all of them, thi...

I think with that buff to Snap Shot, I would take it on a sniper I intended to take on timed missions. For non-timer missions I think DFA would still be better.

Re: Long War 2 Legendary Almost Ironman Victory ~ Detailed Analysis

I'm curious what determines avatar progress? Is there some randomness to it? How many Alien Research Facilities did you do? In my own campaign the avatar timer was just a complete non factor. I did 3 alien research facilities in like July/August, so does it mean that you just need to focus on doing ...

Re: Shredder Gun vs Shredder Cannon vs Plasma Blaster

As far as I can tell, the shredder gun and cannon have the same range and area... am I missing something? Long War 2 attempts to change the template of the Shredstorm Cannon, but fails. It's the same width as the Shred Gun, but with a lot more range, resulting in a weapon capable of taking out pods...

Re: Retaliation Avoidance Strategy?

Yeah the terror retaliations are definitely the worst, you're going to lose some rebels. I've never had a hard recruit retaliation, but maybe I've been lucky. That said, hiding your rebels to avoid retaliations is about the same thing as actually doing something with them, and then them dying in ret...

Re: Retaliation Avoidance Strategy?

I don't think generally you should avoid them at all, they cost almost no soldier time, but provide a nice XP reward. "Retaliations", despite their name, are more of a reward really. For comparison, an ambush troop costs you something like 8 soldiers x 7 days infiltration = 50+ days of Sol...

Re: Changing infiltration math to balance small squad ops

We are actually not supposed to try every mission, but we are conditioned by XCom EW and XCom2 to do so and each time we get a pop-up to say "mission detected" we feel like we have to attempt it. Actually we are supposed to choose the best missions and ignore the rest. Ignoring a mission ...

Re: Changing infiltration math to balance small squad ops

it'd be better if you just worked out what sorts of things were necessary and asked for them than suggested that they just entirely went away, because they're already a gigantic and fairly well incorporated part of the game. I actually don't want stealth to disappear, I enjoyed it at first, figurin...

It'll work if it's a Hack Workstation mission, but not if it's a Data Recovery mission.

No need to sacrifice a shinobi, can just use a rookie.

Re: "Stealthing Network Tower Missions"

I don't like to stealth network towers, even though I stealth everything else in LW2. I think this approach is safer: 1) Bring an assault and an officer with Oscar Mike. 2) Stealth your entire squad safely as far as you can into the map. Usually can make it about half way. 3) Begin combat as usual. ...
