Re: One dark event has made me feel like I lost the game...
Strategic DEs are supposed to last just a month. On the other hand they can chain like crazy, and the volume of missions in LW2 really skews what 'one month' feels like. No, it's not just a feeling, for instance someone in another thread dug in the code and found out the strategic haven infiltrator...

Re: So 0%/low% supply raids are getting nerfed....
I think xwynns subtly mentioned in one of his videos that they are increasing mission duration timers across the board, allowing for better infiltration timers and more varied size groups. That's not exactly the same thing as making them easier to detect, but still has a healthier outcome in general.

Re: Mechanics behind hacking
Good to know. Now that variance: is it +/-15, or is it mor elike +/- 7? And is that number generated at the beginning of the mission, or once you actually send out the gremlin? Because soemtimes what is previews while selecting the option to hack BEFORE sendng the GREMLIN is sometimes way different...

I had a feeling firewalls was also tactical, even though it's not listed as such in game.

Re: Mechanics behind hacking
The factors are: -Your total hacking score -Their total hacking defense - A random variance factor of 15 points (at least this is the number in vanilla, not sure if LW2 changed it), this is why you see different hack chances even at the same hacking score/defense. I.e. there's a double layer of RNG:...

Re: Support Grenadier the new meta in 1.3?
No one said they're a problem in 1.2, I just foresee in 1.3 that they will become the new necessity in doing low man stealth missions. From what I heard, the evac minimum timer will no longer be possible to get down to 1, and there's speculation about guards being near the cell doors, making it more...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Wrt: hunters instinct I am saying that one HI flanking shot is generally better than two non-HI non-flanking shot. And it is. That is, the ability to fire twice is relatively weak without the ability to generate exposure. And that value is on other units not the ranger, once exposure is generated a...

How does rupture explain a 3 damage venom dot tick? It should be 4 damage, not 3.

Re: One dark event has made me feel like I lost the game...
Oh, they don't say "tactical upgrade" when you look at the dark events list. It just says "alien conditioning." I've also wondered what other dark events are actually permanent. I suspect firewalls is permanent but I can't be sure, it doesn't say tactical when you look at your da...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Yes those things are powerful. But any class can kill an exposed unit that I don't need to flank. Rangers do it twice as well/efficiently, that's a pretty big efficiency boost. In fact, most other classes can't even do it from safe range because they are wearing smgs (technicals, grenadiers, specia...

Re: Pistol Builds?
Have you actually seen venom round dots ticking for more than 1? I have seen fire dot tick for 7 (from crits on the fusion blade) I have seen venom rounds tick for 3 (with a rupture shot + plasma cannon from vanilla, which shouldn't be possible because rupture is +3 so 4 should be the minimum) Gas/...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Also rangers would be great officers if Lead By Example can get a fix (it's not currently providing aim bonuses unless soldier's will is higher than than officer's) Wow, it's still bugged? I reported this before the forums converted to pavonis, because I was playing with the leader pack mod and not...

I think it does the same thing, it's literally called Alien Conditioning and doesn't say tactical upgrade on it. It says something like aliens field tougher units, which I take to mean additional hp.

Shinobi. In general too. As for moving how else do you get your ranger in a position to shoot at flanked units? Do units regularly just flank themselves for your Rangers? I dare to say that your games must be much easier than mine. Let's dispense with the cute sayings like "I dare your games a...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Where did I say flank and shoot twice? If I did, what I intended to say was sit still and shoot at a flanked unit twice. Rangers are still better at moving and rapid firing due to better aim and locked on and who knows what else perks. The issues with Rangers is that they're outperformed by flanking...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Shinobi also get rapid fire if that is what you're referring to (otherwise no, Rangers cannot move and fire twice). They also get serial if they want - if they both have rapid fire, rangers can still attack one more time than shinobis, not always, but the volume of fire potential is very practicall...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
Nominally Rangers look like they should be good at this, beca It's not just nominal, just watch xwynns plays (legendary ironman). His rangers are carrying the dps in almost every fight due to sheer volume of firepower (attack + rapid fire). When there are flanked targets, his rangers are taking ful...

Re: One dark event has made me feel like I lost the game...
You can understand my confusion on that as the alert doesnt say "for a month" like a few others, and its affect is in the tactical layer where every other DE is permanent. I definitely understand your confusion. There are some events which I suspect are permanent (like alien conditioning)...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
So its basically better in every metric. You missed the obvious one, firing twice at a flanked target with ranger vs a hunter's instinct, no wonder you are getting biased results. I wouldn't try to compare 2 shots into low cover vs a flanking hunter's instinct shot, not realistic. As you said befor...

1) You can detect "regular" retaliations - the precursor mission will be something like destroy the alien relay to prevent a "data leak." You cannot detect mini-retaliations, the ones that are specific to a rebel job (intel, recruit, supply). 2) too late 3) no, either you do the ...

Re: Support Grenadier the new meta in 1.3?
What else can you do with granadiers tho? By midgame only the status effects of the grenades matter because the damage doesn't scale with enemy HP (and armor), which ramps super high midgame and onwards. And Sapper only works on half of the stuff the aliens use for cover. With the omni-present risk...

Support Grenadier the new meta in 1.3?
I have a feeling it will be, these guys are extremely useful in delaying the enemies (rapid deployment into frost grenade one pod, into smoke or flashbang/STING another pod), which might make up for any stealth/evac nerfs. I already use them to guarantee success in those more "difficult" s...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
I've found Rangers very useful in my campaigns. I personally have 2 paths for Rangers: executioners or overwatch gods. As an executioner, a good scope, locked on, walk fire makes sure enemies that are almost dead do not have a chance to live another turn. Overwatch route can be very good, I use on ...

Re: Pistol Builds?
I like shadowstrike Faceoff, but the crit damage just doesn't compare with Bring 'Em On + Killer Instinct. Faceoff from a Concealed Assault (against unactivated pods) is almost as good even without Shadowstrike, as you're usually shooting enemies out of cover (so CTH is close to 100 already) and wi...
