LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

I'm back to playing LW2 for version 1.5. And I'm thinking about how things have changed and what I should do for my strategic decisions. In this case about Grenadier builds. So my questions about my most common build, a hybrid. There is some interaction between these choices. Here's what I think I'l...

Re: So Johnny and the devs ...

Obviously a lot can be reused, changed and iterated on. But a lot of time gets wasted, and in LW2 I think the primary waste of time is on the testers. If they make a LWotC that uses fatigue instead of infiltration for instance, then testers test it, then devs decide "nope, lets go back to infi...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

The one thing no one mentions is that the WotC fatigue system doesn't seem to affect ADVENT. Guess it's not necessary. In Darkest Dungeon, the cultists and beasties never break down the way your adventurers do. Nor do the cultists and Eldritch horrors fought in Call of Cthulhu go mad the way PC's an...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

Currently, the fatigue system works in that if a soldier is tired after a mission, they must take a risk if they go on another mission which could result in them gaining a negative trait. The amount of fatigue a soldier gains during a mission seems to be mostly random. I know it is based on some fa...

ALM can't stop Steam from updating anything. Steam won't let it. ALM can only control which mods are active and allow the player to change their order in a simple manner.

Re: 1.5 playthrough questions and observations

It's also important to infiltrate to 100% or better, as ADVENT's detection radii grow and shrink in opposition to infiltration. Under-infiltration, you will be seen very quickly. Over-infiltrate, you will have a better chance to control when your squad is revealed.

If you search for "Long War" under XCOM 2 Steam Workshop, you'll find a number of mods that Pavonis put out for XCOM 2 that had the features they later put together to make the full Long War 2 mod: Long War Leader Pack, Long War Alien Pack, Long War Toolbox, Long War Laser Pack, Long War P...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

My idea is to borrow Darkest Dungeon's stress/affliction/virtue system and use will as a stress meter. A soldier will lose will gradually in a mission, plus losing more for getting shot at/hit or seeing the same for squadmates. They gain some will back with kills. But most importantly, once will dr...

Re: Building Tall?

Hi guys, I watched xwynns play and noticed he remains in a single region for a long time before contacting others. I wonder, why? That must have been Xavier's first LW2 campaign. He was testing some variant play in both his first and second LW2 campaigns. For the first one, he pushed his first regi...

Re: Last on in July, wonder what happened

Hey, thanks for all the replies. BTW, Xavier Wynns has started his 3rd LW2 video series, playing a v1.5. campaign. Two episodes already out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxFWZoRfIbc&index=1&list=PLkr09O8z61-rz5395oIWIFRFySI5PU66C From what I've read, LW2 v1.5 for XCOM 2 without WotC is li...

Re: Dissolving the hero classes into LW2: A proposal

I want grueling, tense guerilla warfare and pressure, not a Saturday morning cartoon. I'm surprised Firaxis hasn't tried to sell us action figures or lunch boxes yet. So as I went back to playing LW2 - the far better product, in my mind - the most I credit that I could muster for WotC was to say &q...

Last on in July, wonder what happened

I last read the LW2 forums here back in July, so I'm behind the times and wanting to catch up. I tracked down a deal for WotC but right now I'm not finding playing time for XCOM 2 in either LW2 or WotC form. I did read a bit and see that XCOM 2 can be run without WotC and that's how LW2 (now with v1...

Re: No Reinforcement Farming vs No Experience

I tend to align more with LordYanaek's views than Psieye's, but I sympathise with both. I agree with LordYanaek that in the case of experience from RNF's, it's just better to be simple here and remove it, primarily to make it easier to further balance experience over a campaign without the complexit...

Re: How do you deal with yellow alert flanking shots?

The shadow chamber will tell you how many enemies and what kind of enemies are on the given Mission before you enter the mission. There's also a mod that will count the number of enemies based on what the shadow chamber tells you. Because if you know how many enemies are on the map. You know what t...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

I always used Commander's Choice. Knowing what soldiers are good at (ie. their stats) should influence how they get trained (which class they become), especially for a special ops insurgency with small numbers (not even the size of an infantry company). As well, certain classes are the vital core I ...

Re: A Tale of two players

One thing that bugs me about these changes is that they are very binary in their nature. As someone put it, part of the time the effect is overpowered, but sometime the effect is nerfed to uselessness. Well, weapon attacks don't have a fixed amount of damage, so why should flashbangs, incendiary gre...

Re: Number of Missions to get Promotions; Possible Other Mod Bug?

Another potential factor to consider is xp overflow. Thanks for mentioning that, dude. I think that was the problem wlth the LW2 bugs back in pre-1.3: the soldiers would get a pile of xp overflow and it would keep going because of the bug. To be sure, I'd have to study the XCOM 2 XP system and how ...

I too have been thinking that Gunners are unspectacular after the latest rounds of nerfs to their cooldowns. However I think right now they're better used by focusing on suppression and overwatch builds. I think I'll go with a build without the usual cooldown perks or the multishot ones before Rapid...

Also, if an Overwatch shot hits a yellow-alerted enemy while they're dashing, it shuts down any possible post-move action.

Re: Vanilla classes?

It does for me, and it's actually been a problem, because I sometimes accidentally pick the vanilla version of the class that I really want. I'm surprised to hear that this isn't default CC behavior. I guess it's some kind of weird mod interaction. Can't think why it's doing that, except due to ano...
