Re: Critique My Builds and Squads

My Rangers with offense higher than starting 65 misses a lot. Two grenade on him and he is reliable. Two ammo for graze is disaster. I really can't stand the lower end of default stat variance. Sub-65 Aim and starting HP of 3, as well as LW2 Mobility of less than 15 irritate me no end. I've metamod...

Re: Critique My Builds and Squads

I m heavy on Shinobi/Assault combo (early game). They are heavy hitters early game. Shinobi for scouting and assault for hitting hard trouble. I use Shinobi for offense. Once you are out of concealment you can one hit kill most of hard targets. I agree with you about the Shinobi+Assault combo. I ma...

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

I agree. Interference isn't worth give up Field Surgeon or Covering Fire when there's so many other ways to remove Overwatch, even if a hit is needed. And I think this applies to Combat Protocol too. There's so many other ways to apply damage, even if a hit is needed. Sentinel is the start of a good...

Re: LW2 with both Infiltration & Fatigue Right Now

A Darkest Dungeon stress system would be amazing. The key is that soldiers should also have a chance to become virtuous. Heroism is forged in the crucible of combat. Damn right! It is what Grimy was aiming for. There's reference to two negative afflictions in the Steam Workshop page, Paranoid and H...

Re: LW2 with both Infiltration & Fatigue Right Now

Sounds interesting. Right now the will stat doesn't seem to be of much use. Sounds like what is described could use some rebalancing, but it sounds like a good idea. And some of the perks should help reduce will loss. Just reading the config file it's kind of tricky to figure out the exact rates of...

Re: Critique My Builds and Squads

Assaults depend on good reconnaissance to use Run and Gun while managing the risk of activating more pods than desired. Use a concealed Shinobi to check the flanks and farther forward. Know how many enemy each ADVENT Activity Level starts with. Keep a count as you encounter ADVENT while concealed. S...

Re: Critique My Builds and Squads

Some of the soldier classes are strange in the way they play. Many perks aren't quite as good as they appear. Some are situational early in the campaign and substandard later on. That's irritating considering how long it takes to respec a soldier in the AWC. Most classes are best used with their uni...

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

Here I am, sitting comfortably with one build each for Ranger and Gunner. And you keep bring up stuff that has me tweak *yet again* my Specialist build. Or at least the OW 2nd Specialist. :) CF is an awfull skil for ow spec as it force you to shot target IN COVER (-45% chance to hit and almost 0% to...

Re: LW2 with both Infiltration & Fatigue Right Now

Sounds like an irritating mod that makes fun parts (longer battles) of LW2 not fun anymore. If I want a game that forces me to kill enemies in one turn instead of delay them with flashbangs and smokes I can play WotC instead. Grimy's Moral Mod does have soldiers lose a little bit of Willpower just ...

Re: LW2 with both Infiltration & Fatigue Right Now

Nice way to prevent 50% infiltration. Oh, indeed. Just the Willpower erosion in a long battle could cause troops to break and turn an exercise in farming into "buying the farm". :) Choke point is downside. ( Whole barracks at breaking point. No new mission.) Solution - Combat drugs PCS us...

LW2 with both Infiltration & Fatigue Right Now

I play LW2 with Grimy's Moral Mod . I'm discovering even in early April a strong synergy when having the combined challenge of Infiltration while XCOM soldiers lose Willpower to combat fatigue. Having to send troops out again when they haven't recovered from their last battle. And when the whole bar...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Interesting, taking Sapper without Combat Engineer.

One thing that can be forgotten is environment destruction is all or nothing. If the blast didn't take out the cover or blow a hole in the floor, it's not weakened in any way and will just be as hard to destroy on later attempts.

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

Thanks for all the great thoughts, dudes. Lots of good details to remember, like use of soldiers with Quick Study and making spare officers for when the primary ones are wounded or training. First of all, I'd like to say, that specialists are great officers. I don't train other classes for officers ...

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

Shoniby is in the stealth for most of the mission so he can't do anything offensive/supporting without loosing the concealment. BUT Command and all other officer abilities (focus fire/incoming/+ 5 speed/etc.) doesn't break concealment (!) and it's the strongest thing it can do to support the team (...

A lot of good LW2 info articles and links are posted by Pavonis in the Long War 201 subforum here. Including this one on the latest version of reddit user exodusinfinite's XCOM 2 LW2 tech tree here. http://www.pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=25888 Pointing at this reddit post ...

Re: Mimimi moments, or no regrets when reloading a save

Except that the faceless attacks despite being on fire, making my tech bleed out. WTF?! In stock XCOM 2, being on fire doesn't prevent ranged attacks but does stop melee attacks. Pavonis thought that was backwards and for LW2 changed it to being on fire stopping ranged attacks but not melee attacks.

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

gimrah, I'm playing with Commander's Choice, so between it and the GTS every Rookie ends up being exactly the class I think is best. That 58 aim Rookie is going to be a Grenadier or Flamer Technical (just watch out for his rocket :) ). Noober, I welcome you supporting your claim that Shinobis are th...

Re: When did sentinels get armor shredding

Sentinels can get the Shredder perk as a randomly selected AWC skill in either the 1st or 2nd offensive slot, just requiring training in the AWC. The only classes that can get Shredder as a rank perk are Gunners, Technicals, and Sparks.

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

I think fire grenade benefits from HEAT in terms of armor piercing though not sure. No shred unfortunately... And now I remember. Fire damage ignores armour; HEAT isn't needed. (Needs to be a Technical with Phosphorus to damage robots with fire. Phosphorus add armour shredding as well.) So HEAT War...

Thanks for replying. Cpl: Field Surgeon As Noober said, it's like having +1 ablative armour. Sure you don't get the "FLAWLESS" on the mission summary, but your troops are available for another mission sooner. You will have a flawless screen. Whoa. That's so cool! Thanks for mentioning that!

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

Thanks for replying. As Phaseless said, a lot of difficult choices. Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Volatile mix is very good, and I used to take it on every grenadier, but I've since switched to Salvo, which I think is overall stronger, especially if you take fullkit at MSGT. The idea behind salvo is that you can sting or incendiary a lot more enemies with two smaller radius grenades, than with ...

LW2 1.5 Specialist Builds

I'm planning to use Specialist Officers with some medical perks, supplemented by a 2nd Reaction/Medic Specialist as needed. Two Specialists can do perma Aid Protocol. And all Specialists will have Field Surgeon. EDIT3: Well, at least 1 of the 2 or 3 Specialists on the squad. Maybe 2 Field Surgeons. ...
