Re: Overwatch Creep and Pod Mechanics
The question is, is a game where it's advantageous to activate aliens on your turn more fun than one where you want to do that on the alien turn? I object to the idea of activating aliens period. I favor something like Final Fantasy Tactics, where everything is active from the start of the match. S...

Overwatch Creep and Pod Mechanics
Overwatch Creep has always been a concern for XCOM players. Or at least since Enemy Unknown. I'm a relative noobie compared to some people. But I think an important part of combatting it is figuring out why it exists. Mission timers don't solve the problem, they just ruin that particular strategy. M...

Long War And Back Again: A Commanders Tale
So, with all the hubbub about too much stealth or 0% missions, I figured I'd return to some Vanilla XCOM 2 while I waited for the future patches to shape the mod up. I decided to play it mechanically vanilla (except for the Free Reload Anytime mod and Retroactive AWC, which I've always used), to kee...

Re: LW2 needs more "middle class" missions
Wait what? I thought deep cover always worked like that in vanilla. I'm a little clueless to what you're referring to here. R I recall it being that it was basically the Ever-Vigilant version of Hunker Down. That is to say, you couldn't attack and then get the free Hunker. Some of the edit history ...

Re: LW2 needs more "middle class" missions
We getting there boyz. I'm still considering taking a break until then, wouldn't be a bad thing for the Real Life simulator I'm playing right now. Heh. I've just picked up Skyrim again, so I've been keeping myself occupied. Not sure whether I'll continue my existing game, or start a new one. My cur...

Re: Ideas for balancing Oscar Mike > Command in rescue missions
tl;dr: Address the real problem, don't treat the symptoms. I'd agree with this mostly. Oscar Mike + Command is a powerful way to do certain stealth missions, but it's not the sole reason why stealth is good. Remember, at the start of his playthrough Xavier said he wasn't a huge fan of Oscar Mike, a...

Re: LW2 needs more "middle class" missions
But what if we just say "meh, screw it" to the thematic portion of it? Just make corpses et. al. retrievable on all missions, and adjust costs accordingly. This incentivizes combat in ALL missions (it's a damn tactical combat game at its core, anyway), while still retaining some reason/ne...

Re: LW2 needs more "middle class" missions
Haven't read the whole thread, but a few thoughts. First off, more solo-drones when the party is size 3 or less. If you've got three soldiers, then you're almost certainly doing a stealth mission. Solo drones can significantly hinder stealth without increasing combat difficulty much. Personally, I d...

Re: Getting Brian Bloom?
Even if he were willing to do a few extra lines for free (or cheap) for a mod, I don't think this really qualifies. Long War 2 is officially sponsored. I'm not sure if Pavonis was paid by Firaxis, but if they were, then any voice actors would be entitled to normal fees for additional lines. But hey,...

Re: Datapads / Selling stuff
I find myself working in a data pad on a regular basis... but I still have more than I need. Mostly, you'll want them to expand, with expansion to deal with AVATAR pips being the key motivation. If you're doing fine on AVATAR, then you can afford to sell more. Intel is valuable, but I also think it'...

Re: Boltcaster sucks a ding dong?
I didn't know the sword had more aim than the axe! Nice to know. The frost bomb is fairly useful; it's really good for small man "rescue from the vehicle" or hack the vehicle missions. There's usually a pod humping the van making it very annoying but you just straight up freeze them all a...

Re: Plasma vs Coil weapons
I'm with you mang, but for whatever reason the majority of posters here seem to be super excited about skipping lasers and going straight to mags. I don't get the hype, having tried it. It just delays your first liberation and laser aim is pretty nice. Actually, I think the only real selling point ...

Re: Arc thrower and panic
Not regularly, sure, but after spiking an officer I've seen them in the wild - two popped up during a generic Blacksite assault, and another pair appeared in a counterinsurgency op to destroy a relay. As for sources of panic, SPARK Intimidate can panic enemies when it succeeds. Which isn't very oft...

Re: Boltcaster sucks a ding dong?
It's not so bad on a Specialist in LW2. However, it does suffer from being costly to upgrade, and the presence of SMGs gives Specialists and Psychics an alternative option from the Boltcaster which boiled down to "This is good on Overwatch" after you got Mag weapons (or laser weapons in LW...

Re: Plasma vs Coil weapons
I kinda like Plasma Weapons where they are. They're not a huge upgrade from Coil Guns, but they're also the end-game weapons, and they are objectively better than the Coil Weapons in all cases. I don't mind the final upgrade being cost-inefficient compared to the stuff that comes before it. Honestly...

Hrm... what if an Assault has Electroshock, and targets a Codex with a basic Arc Thrower? Wouldn't that mean that hitting the Codex would actually be worse than missing?
Seems like something should be done there...

-- but if it is, then they've done an outstanding job of tidying up their code and leaving no suspicious references for players to find. But this would also require the PI crew to probably be maintaining a second branch of LW2 that is ready to launch. I'd guess that we're probably instead looking a...

Re: Thanks for long war 2
Amidst all our criticisms about how we'd like the game to be, I guess it can give the wrong impression sometimes. It's all because of how much we love the game as it is, and our hopes and belief that you can continue to asymptote towards perfection. Thanks for all you've done Pavonis. You're work is...

I keep hearing people talk about this new DLC for XCOM2? Has there been any actual word on this from a legit source? Because the only thing I've actually heard about it is that someone spotted a new steamapp id on the DLC section, which often is a simple mistake made on steam's end as much as anyth...

Re: [General Feedback] Strategic layer and class balance
It is precisely their vanilla lack of utility that makes them so great for tacking officer skills onto later. Seriously, try it. They're ideal. They're up there with Stealth Shinobis and Specialists, I'd say. Stealth Shinobis work well because officer commands don't break concealment. Very few acti...

Re: Regional Attract Attention?
Not so sure about using Attention missions on places to liberate. You'll have a very hard time getting the HQ mission done without hitting 5 Stength anyway. And if you somehow can get an HQ mission with less than 5 strength, the HQ mission isn't easy, so that just means you've made a difficult missi...

Re: Formidable: Ever Worth the Tradeoff
Definitely an excellent choice on a SPARK. Besides being a part of the tank build for it (which is it's best use, IMO), it also has a sorta hidden synergy with Bulwark. When a soldier hides behind the SPARK, the two units together tend to become an excellent choice for grenades, which Formidable wil...

Re: Blacksite
I have no particular interest in attempting this stealthily. Honestly, the concept kind of bothers me. It's one thing to solo or duo some random hacking mission, but a story mission (which I hear has high odds of including the first Sectopod) really shouldn't be skipped over like that :D That being ...
