I believe Dark Event missions have artificlally extended timers so that you have much more time to detect and intercept -- because the tactical ones are permanent.

In that case, it's probably not a trap.

Your soldier also needs to be high enough rank in the first place. You can't give someone their rank 3s if they're still a Squaddie.

Same goes for Officer training in the GTS.

The pistol perks only track up to Level 3, so I think you should be fine to just increase the total number of perk ranks maybe?

As best I can tell it goes 1/2/3/1/2/3/? for ranks - multiply them by four for training times.

I'm not sure there's a easy-ish way to make rendering take time without making it a proving grounds project. It varies from mission to mission but should be clearly stated beforehand. If you kill them, I don't think you get anything. What I would probably do is; Reduce range penalties to 2 per square beyond 9 (down from 3/square). Reduce base rolls to 2. No change to roll count for moving. Reduce aim penalty for moving to -20. From my point of view the tower mission is just too random. You have no chance to get to the console if 1 of the 2 bridges is up and you have to use the other way. Anyway, I don't think Pavonis is down for this one and that's totally fine, so I'll just mention for anyone who's interested that these modifications ( or any others you want to make to armor ) are totally possible with the Armor Stat Customiser mod, which is 100% compatible with Long War 2. I remember a lot of post-release reddit threads being "OMG, Stun Lancers OP!" and several of the earliest mods released onto the workshop were to nerf the Stun Lancer. They were an absolute menace if you didn't know how to handle them properly.

Sounds like you've been stalling pretty hard - unless you're on Rookie.

I'd hit that blacksite ASAP and get the story ball rolling again. If you can, hit as many supply raids and troop movements (esp. in the 3-5 regions) as possible to bring in the resources you need to arm up.

It's then reduced by 30 if the character has moved this turn, and further reduced if the shot is long range (-3 per tile beyond range 9.)
