Re: LW2 just isn't fun

1) The problem with liberating regions is that "wiping 5 pts of Strength off the map" means nothing after 14 days and a secret space reinforcement. 14 days later, your "Strength" gains are lost, but that region is still liberated, so that's one less region to build Vigilance on....

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

My personal gripe is with strategic layer though. A lot of effort was put into strategic layer ADVENT but it did not enrich the experience for the player in a meaningful way. Apart from continental bonuses (which are mostly terrible numerical bonuses which are borring) all the heavens are essential...

Re: LW2 just isn't fun

The mechanics of the Strategy layer are clever, but the end results of their interactions are weird. 1) Liberating regions is BAD (straight-up bad). Like, wha? It's true, though, because of the vigilance and Advent strength mechanics, the more regions Advent owns, the easier it is to maintain their...

Re: Advice

Just to give an alternative viewpoint, I find 1-2 Snipers invaluable on Tower assaults. You will never find another map with so many clear Squadsight lines of sight. If you can get high ground, that's ideal, but it's not necessary. You need a Shinobi to go with it though. Once you're shinobi has swi...

Re: An absurd ending...

That's exactly what I'm advocating: remedying the misconception that "skirt the edge of the AVATAR project" strategy is good. Why isn't it a good strategy? My early impression, given that Regional Strength was the clearest mechanic I could interpret, was that I was supposed to keep my hea...

Re: An absurd ending...

I don't know what the best answer is, but I don't think I'd advocate for just exposing the Vigilance mechanics. Without context, that becomes just another mystery word in a jumble of words that are all closely related in English but mean critically different things in-game. My approach would be mor...

Re: Rocket scatter slightly weird(?)

Well, actually your chance to hit the point you are aiming with a rocket is 100%. It might not be the center of the AoE but it will always be in the AoE. True, but my chance of hitting all the targets that were highlighted in the preview is certainly not 100%. As for not saying the current system i...

Re: Rocket scatter slightly weird(?)

True, but if I found that the best way to maximise the probability of hitting a head shot was to point at the targets feet, I'd ask for a different gun... That comparison is overlooking two key facts about rockets They scatter in a random direction They have an AoE The result is that even when it's...

Re: An absurd ending...

JoINrbs said in one of his recent videos that LW2 is mainly aimed at players who are "intelligent enough to dig info they need from game files or at least read the wiki" - something along those lines. Players are expected to read wikis/forums/reddits/etc - work as a community - when they ...

Re: guerrilla ops in 1.3

I've heard that 1.3 aims to change guerrilla ops missions by distributing the enemy forces into smaller pods on the map. The intended effect, I believe, is that full stealth will be difficult to achieve and you'll need to plan on punching your way through a patrol or two. Does anyone have an idea h...

Re: Rocket scatter slightly weird(?)

* the quirk being that, sometimes, some tiles away from the centre are each more likely to be hit than the one aimed for. I don't think this is really that strange, ultimately. If you take, say, a 30% shot with a soldier's gun, you're going to miss more than twice as often as you hit, so why not wi...

Re: An absurd ending...

I think it's worth thinking about what a good 'End of Game' scenario does look like on the strategy layer. I guess the alternative is to make the game unloseable on the strategy layer, but I don't think that fits with the design goal of the mod. It seems to me that everyone wants a game which feels ...

Re: What is the idea behind Crit Rangers?

So in LW2 lets take a ranger that has 50 chance to hit (typical aim against low cover) and +50 crit. Without 50 crit and only 50 to hit he would have 40% to hit, 20% graze and 40% hit. If he uses a plasma rifle that does 10 dmg, he's average damage per shot is 0.4*0 + 0.2*10/2 + 0.4*10 = 5. However...

Re: Burn + Flashbang no disorientation

Note: They may have been disoriented already at the time. That may be the problem here. Disorient doesn't stack and can't be reapplied while the disorient is still in effect. So probably the disorient effect that was already there just wore off the following turn and your FB actually did nothing. T...

Also, they're still adding balance changes. There are two additional Gameplay changes this week. Once they stop adding new ones (and perhaps reveal what they are testing), that's a good sign that the patch will be out soon.

Re: Some upcoming changes for 1.3 in xwynns video

Snap Shot will only apply the penalty if you actually move before shooting so a snapshooter will only be slightly worse than a DfA sniper when they don't move, with the ability to move and shoot if needed. Nice boost. Where was this mentioned. I know there was talk about making changes, but nothing...

This is mostly because I tend to run it as soon as Mag Weapons are done, and so I want a team that doesn't need Adv Mags... I tend to run it as soon as i have Advanced Laser which is faster and gives me weapons for my assaults but of course Airdrop can help you if you have a grenadier. However your...

Re: "Stealthing Network Tower Missions"

It depends. If they have air drop, they also bring 2 free grenades, which is like an extra half a grenadier. My first network tower team is usually: Shinobi, Grenadier, Specialist, Ranger, Sharpshooter. This is mostly because I tend to run it as soon as Mag Weapons are done, and so I want a team tha...

Re: Suggestion for promoting liberation of regions

Liberating regions is already massively rewarding, especially during the early/midgame. You remove 5 points of alert from the map and possibly increase vigilance also (depends on how much vigilance was in that region), which is a huge setback to the Avatar project for the aliens. You get a huge bonu...

Re: Engineer Advisers

You can figure out where the Faceless are by moving havens on and off supply for a whole month. Faceless only steal supplies from their own haven. A rendezvous mission doesn't guarantee that there are no more faceless. You can eliminate 1 or 2 faceless on each mission (iirc 50% of each), but there c...

BEO definitely does. I'm not sure about aggression, but I think so. Bigger Booms can be a lot of fun on Rangers or Assaults.

Liberation missions aren't supposed to appear for the first month, so I'm surprised you've got Lib 1 so early, not so late. Where did you get this? I'm almost sure i've seen liberation 1 before the first supply drop too (but it's been some time now) Even at str4 you should be able to get it down to...

Re: Is it odd to have zero avatar progress in November/December?

I would guess the OP is doing a lot of Supply Raids and Troop Columns. Both have a huge effect on your lead over advent, as they remove a point of strength from the map and add 3-4 points of Vigilance. The more Vigilance you create, the more Supply Raids that appear, and you can see how it can snowb...
