This is.... TERRA!!

It's the start of May, the Resistance in four ADVENT zones are working for XCOM. There are thirteen ADVENT legions in these four regions, distributed 5, 5, 2, 1. Naturally, the Resistance network in the sparser ADVENT regions are also the weakest. XCOM is out of supplies, the inventory has been stri...

Re: Is it just me or are Shinobis the most important class in the game?

They're one of the most indispensable classes I think. Phantom and actually being able to kill stuff that is holed up in cover is super valuable. They become a little weak as the early game transitions into the midgame as the one shot kills get riskier, but then get a large power spike as you start ...

Re: OW Tactics

Ever Vigilant is a game changer, especially in timed missions. If I have high aim specialists, they can do Sentinel and Covering Fire, but they can't take EV (for competing perks). I usually build two types of rangers. The majority go full OW with Covering Fire with a Combat Awareness PCS. In cover ...

Re: Least valuable class in 8-man squad?

I think this thread is a testament to how well the Pavonis crew has designed the LW2 classes. Everyone builds their ideal squads differently, and given how few variables there are to optimize, the diversity is surprising. It's hard to answer the question posed in the OP fairly, but I'll just say tha...

Re: Too much starting randomness

As far as I know, the Basic Research only lessens the Scientists requirement for techs, it does not provide a bonus to research. To expand on the true issue with RNG, the missions you get in the first month also play a very important role in defining your campaign. Doing a landed UFO in March helps...

Re: Any way to change muton melee AI?

Frankly, I don't understand why this is a big issue. Mutons being countered by a gunner or a shinobi with one specific perk, running into melee with the suboptimal positioning it creates sometimes, that seems okay. It's not game breaking unlike 0% raids and provides interesting gameplay and position...

Re: What's your views on ammo use?

I use AP rounds as default, talons for assaults. Switching everyone but assaults soon to Tracers, because I have enough shred. I'm very conservative when it comes to risks, more so than optimal.

Ideas for Troop Columns and Supply Raids

0% supply raids were rendered extremely high risk in 1.4, and having played quite a bit since then, I must say that the new dynamic of SnG is more interesting. It's a great change. I may be a bit slow on my research, but it seems that other people are having some trouble getting corpses, and pre 1.3...

Re: Making smoke more intersting.

Dense Smoke giving dodge instead of defense maybe? That would increase grazes and put more soldiers in the hospital instead of in the ground. Less binary outcomes, and more chances for the player to recover from bad positioning.

Re: Sniper: AMF vs Double Tap

They're for different things. Double Tap gives your sniper a button to push for massive damage. AMF is for increasing your kill reliability and expanding the range of optimal targets. I take Double Tap snipers on combat missions to fill the role of a gunner. Deal huge damage to that Andromedon that ...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

I beg to differ. To be able to use that force projection you will need at least 2 soldiers - a Sniper and a spotter. The spotter either has to remain in Stealth, or be able to take a lot of punishment and hunker down almost every turn. In both cases the Spotter does not contribute with much to the ...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

I'm a heavy DFA sharpshooter user and my squad comps and tactics reflect that. Sharpshooters don't feel underpowered to me and I won't be affected by the Serial nerf as I prefer AMF anyway. The new tree however is another story. Please don't make me choose between Kubikiri and Low Profile, or Indepe...
