I do have a silly soft crowd control ranger build that I use, it hinges on having venom or dragon rounds.
Walk Fire, Suppression, (something), Grazing Fire, Formidable, Tactical Sense, (something).
It's function is basically to apply fire/poison to targets every turn keeping enemies out of the fight.

It's also worth noting that Precision Shot is more attractive to Snap Shot snipers as it gives you back the ability (on a 3 turn cd) to snipe from range on the occasions where you find yourself in a position where you wish you didn't have Snap Shot Wait, precision shot ignores the snap shot penalty?

The thing about the SPARK is that Cool Under Pressure, if you're building down the tank route, isn't really as useful as another armor point as you won't be over watching as much.

Psi abilities hit chance is calculated similarly to weapon accuracy, actually. Your "aim" is the psi offence start, each ability has an innate bonus (insanity has +30), and the enemy "defense" is their will. So yes, you're in general really inaccurate because of how those number...

The Lost Advent Trooper was actually a bug, or rather an oversight, and has since been resolved either in 1.1 or been resolved for 1.2.

Apparently they're adding a new mission type, smash and grab, that awards materiel and looks like it's aimed to be a mid sized mission given the infiltration timer on it, but it's still a choice between sweep or steal and run.

As far as I understand it, it's the distance as the attack is activated. Wether that's a blue move or a yellow move is not relevant. If you're standing right next to the guy there's no bonus. Just to add one thing on the matter of the Flashbang and Arc Thrower discussion, remember the higher tier Arc Throwers stun for 3 and 4 AP, meaning another half a turn or a turn of stun, with a T3 thrower you can keep any single enemy permanently locked out and that is useful for incredibly powerful...

WOW! So if a pair of pods come by a flank during alien turn can wipe out my squad? In my case were 3 flanked shots plus a zombie for next turn... Also, let this sink in: depending on how and how long you're engaging a pod the AI will send another pod on a wild flanking maneuver exactly to catch you...
