Re: AWC Balance
Here's a clip from Jon's latest campaign of his Assault using her shotgun and pistol to shoot three different aliens a total of six times. Good luck duplicating that with random AWC perks.TheCiroth wrote:Sorry but I feel like pistols are damn near worthless to carry.

Re: AWC Balance
You might be right, but if that's the case I'd expect to see everyone training pistol perks. However, in fact there's very little discussion of pistol perks at all (and far more discussion of different Off/Def perks), and I see pistol perks being trained and used rarely on streams, and rarely menti...

Re: AWC Balance
With hidden perks, it's much harder to 'solve' the decisions in advance, as there are far more unknowns, and you have to make decisions with less information about their consequences. Actually, with hidden perks, I'm pretty sure the way you 'solve' the decisions is "train good perks if availab...

Re: AWC Balance
XCOM is at its best when you make interesting and meaningful decisions, and in order to make these decisions you need to have information. Pretty much this. I find the choice of 'do I train up 12 days of useless perks in order to train 12 days for a really good perk?' an interesting one. 'Do I trai...

I've never actually had a recruitment retal spawn, but my takeaway from other people's posts has been 'never put more than 4 rebels on recruit unless it's a liberated region'.

Re: AWC Balance
I just did some ini editing to reveal them for my last campaign. Made the game much more fun. It's a huge letdown to spend 8 days training something mediocre just to find that the level 3 perk is something completely useless.

Re: [Feedback] 1.2 Perk Tree: Tier balance (Wall of Text Warning)
Failsafe is far and away the best pick for stealth Specialists because it's very, very common for your Specialist/Shinobi stealth team to spot a lamppost while sneaking through the map. Without Failsafe, you're going to look at it and think "is it worth taking a 30% (or whatever) chance on fail...

Probably either could work. I like Full Kit, though, just because I don't really rely on grenades for cover destruction by that point.nightwyrm wrote:Interesting build. Do you plan to take Combat Engineer or Full Kit for your top perk?

Re: Support Grenadier the new meta in 1.3?
I've tried both full support and full damage grenadiers, and both are strong but inflexible. Support is stronger earlier because it really doesn't need any special gear apart from flashbangs and smokes, both of which are free, and it's obviously much better when you just want to buy time, but they'r...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
While Gunner's abilities take more ammo, they can almost always reload -> shoot without losing damage potential. On the other hand, Rangers ideally wants to shoot, shoot and shoot some more. I find that usually my Gunners are more limited by cooldowns while Rangers are limited by ammo. Exactly. Gun...

Re: I Just Did a 100% Shinobi Playthrough: What I Learned About Rangers
What I'd really like to see with Rangers would be for them to have a little more ammo than they do now. Give them a level 1 perk that gives them +1 ammo while they use an assault rifle: call it 'Ammo Conservation' or something. One of the big reasons that Rangers compare poorly to Gunners is that li...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?
Thinking about it, the best comparison might be of a Psi trooper to a GTS/AWC trooper. A squaddie goes on missions, gets enough EXP to hit Sergeant. They go into the GTS for three officer promotions. This costs them 3 sessions worth of training time, and leaves them with: • Base class abilities • 3 ...

Re: [feedback] Reduce Will scaling on enemies
I've noticed this as well. One of the things that made Psi useful in earlier versions of XCOM was that there were certain enemies (e.g. Mutons) which were very strong and tough and hard to fight physically, but who were weak against psi attacks. It gave Psi a nice niche. With LW2, it seems to be the...

Re: Psi Ops still suck?
I do believe the very base of all the complaints lies in #2, don't think the randomness is quite the worst factor but in general the abilities they bring to the table are generally considered not worth the investment on them. I think that focusing on improving abilities is probably the top of the l...

Re: DFA vs. Rapid Targeting
There is a niche for a holo scout, but you need quite a lot of other soldiers to make them worthwhile. I think you need at least a squad size of 7 before it becomes worth it (and I'd only do it on untimed missions). They're pretty fun when they work though. Multitargeting an enemy 8-pod and followin...

There are a lot of annoying Dark Events out there, but Vigilance really does seem to be the winner for making your missions thoroughly miserable while it's active.

Re: DFA vs. Rapid Targeting
JoINrbs says that he takes RT because it's more flexible. But frankly I am not sure it is. It's 'flexible' in that it doesn't require high ground, yeah. Unfortunately adding +10 aim once every 5 turns is such a tiny benefit that the DfA sniper only needs to be on high ground about a third of the ti...

Re: [General Feedback] 1.2 Commander campaign – feedback on classes, missions, and Psi
I don't understand why psi soldiers have to retrain in the tube for skills. Let them learn skills at advancement just like other soldiers. Then a mix of combat or support skills can be mixed in with the psi skills. Also increase the xp bonus they get, so they can catch up to higher ranked soldiers ...

Re: DFA vs. Rapid Targeting
I think DfA snipers are probably more powerful individually, but holotarget snipers do make nice force multipliers. Trouble is that they don't really take off until they get Multitargeting, while DfA snipers only need DfA, a good perch, and a stock.

But if they would actually get good eventually, this investment would be worth it. Your argument basically applies to every new soldier from june onward. Do you never level up new troops in the summer? The thing is, you only need to level up most classes once or twice before they start pulling thei...

Re: Is roust bugged or I had rolled a 0.000000001 probability?
It has a really long range, very low damage, and a very low chance to set enemies on fire. In practice I mostly end up using Roust to trigger Burnout and finish off enemies on 1 HP. The forced move often hurts as much as it helps since the enemies are free to move to a better position. I'm unsure as...

Re: [General Feedback] 1.2 Commander campaign – feedback on classes, missions, and Psi
I dont know, I find that you can get them reasonably early after getting the initial early stuff (lasers+armor tech and plasmas). Im in late summer now and still have no issue with dragging along newcomers in easy missions (of which there are still enough). But that's the point. You don't bring the...

Re: Is roust bugged or I had rolled a 0.000000001 probability?
This annoyed me enough that I actually went and looked it up. The datafiles contain the following: ROUST_DIRECT_APPLY_CHANCE=20 ROUST_DAMAGE_PENALTY=0.80f ; 20% of normal In other words, Roust does 20% of the damage of a regular Flamethrower, which is pretty much always going to be 1. Definitely not...

Re: xwynns Long War 2 Legend #77 video
Yeah, I watched it. My thoughts were 'and this is why you don't try to use 4-5 man combat squads past the early game'. It's just the way LW2 combat works. Doing a combat mission with 8 soldiers is easy; doing it with 6 is twice as hard as with 8; doing it with 5 is twice as hard as with 6; doing it ...
