Re: Vanilla classes?

It does for me, and it's actually been a problem, because I sometimes accidentally pick the vanilla version of the class that I really want. I'm surprised to hear that this isn't default CC behavior. I guess it's some kind of weird mod interaction.

Re: Vanilla classes?

The easiest way would to be to use Commander's Choice and just manually switch everyone to the old class, which still appears in the CC menu.

Re: Alien strength, how to control it? Global.

There are some misunderstandings here. Vigilance doesn't create strength, it attracts it. The strength will continue to build up whether you create vigilance or not, it will just take it slightly longer to start pooling in your regions if you stay quiet. In my AAR, I had swatted something like 8 UFO...

Re: How is "hiding" being calculated ?

Hiding isn't a job like the other ones - it's essentially pretending that the rebel does not exist, meaning that a haven with 4 working rebels and 4 hiding rebels is the same as a haven with 4 rebels working and none hiding. I believe Vigilance reduction is once every 7 days when there are 9 rebels...

Re: Advent Strength Not Increasing

On Rookie, the aliens get new legions at a much slower rate (2 legions every 14 days instead of 10 days con Commander/Legendary). This makes a big difference in overall strength. You regions are low because ADVENT strength is low overall, and they are having trouble finding enough legions to meet al...

Re: Alien strength, how to control it? Global.

Global strength is just the sum of all of the regional strengths, so if you understand one, you understand the other.

Re: Switch AWC+Psi Staff to Engineers or Both?

I've been thinking about the engineer problem a bit. What I would like (but will probably not happen) is a more radical change to the Avenger where we get a separate assembly line of some sort that has open ended completion times, based on idle engineers (e.g. the way that research and scientists wo...

Re: Timing for initial spawn of Super UFO and Lib 1 missions

1) Can't really comment on this, because I've never really tried to prevent the super UFOs. The cost of restricting your mission count is much, much worse than ADVENT getting extra legions. 2) Liberation missions spawn in every region, everywhere, all the time, even if you haven't made contact yet. ...

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

For the record, something is seriously wrong if you haven't found that UFO within 2.5~3 days from that '100 intel a day' haven. Cool script. I made a spreadsheet for myself, but having a portable script that you can just plug into your browser is really nice. And yeah, UFOs are easier to detect tha...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

Yeah, it was amazing. I've only ever gotten a rendezvous in March once, getting two is unheard of. They were just LCPL advisors, placed to there for the passive recruit income. Only got one officer between the two, which is annoying, but it's nice to have cleared out the initial spies.

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

Started my first ever Legendary campaign. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I think the rudest shock for most people is the faster and earlier force clock, but I'm so used to staying with ballistics and kevlar until June that it didn't phase me at all. Everything else are just small incremen...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

Oh yeah, forgot an item. Propaganda missions. I just don't feel that they work. There is basically never a time when I want to spike vigilance in a low vigilance region. It's good that they were removed from the GOp pool, but I'd like to see about making them viable missions rather than just getting...

Re: Mass Snapshot Snipers and Tank Shinobis

I've never really made snapshot snipers work, but I have always loved tank scouts. This makes me want to try both together. I've found that the combo of Dodge PCS, Predator/Warden, Hazmat, Mindshield, Combatives, and Hard Target create a "fortress" soldier that is resistant or immune to mo...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

Maybe they could do more as haven advisors than just "extra supplies". Something like "builds a resistance Mec every 30 days" or "radio tower for free after 60 days". Or straight up gather supplies like a Lv 3 rebel all on their own even if nobody else is doing the Sup...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

For any devs that are reading this: Engineers: These guys stop being a real resource somewhere around month 3 or 4. There's just nothing for them to do. I kind of wish that corpse rendering was a separate throughput, and the speed depended on the number of available engineers. That would actually ma...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

Lessons learned and plans changed I don't think I'll be hiring Engineers on month one anymore. I wanted to get things pushing in the right direction, but clearing space in the Avenger was never a limiting factor, ever. Psionics just aren't worth it. I really want to like them, but you don't really g...

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

I've never heard of that rule, but if it's true, it trivializes many of the bonuses that you can get. In particular, the difference between a high level officer and a low level soldier accumulating points for a Rendezvous becomes very, very marginal, since the base percent is only 2% to begin with.

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

I just looked up the details on the detection calculations, and they work a little differently than I thought. RequiredRebelMissionIncome is actually subtracted from your total intel pool, and only the excess intel counts towards detection. So for a RequiredRebelMissionIncome=100 and DiscoveryPctCha...

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

Yeah, this question was motivated by your report, among other things. I have a region strength 3, vigilance 17 in my current playthrough. The region has only liberated neighbors, so no troop movements. I ran full intel on this one, specifically to create an UFO trap. Worked once, but then 40+ days ...

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

I'm not so much interested in the chance per roll, which is easy to calculate in your head, but in the cumulative chance, which is not easy to calculate, hence the spreadsheet. Like you say, detection chance per roll is roughly just the base percent times the number of days spent searching, assuming...

Re: Running intel on high-vigilance regions viable?

So I obviously have a position on this :p Regions that are just barely over the threshold should probably just wait for the vigilance to go back down so you can get back to whacking troop columns right away. Higher vig regions will continue to run Intel until I've finished Lib3. You really want thos...

stefan3iii: I think it will probably work on Legendary, it's just a matter of degree. More is always going to be more, it's just that "more" probably means less on Legendary than on Commander. UFO Parking Scam was insane. Not just for the number of UFOs you caught but how all your earlygam...

So, that will probably be the last report in this series. It's been fun, but it's also been a lot of work. The game is essentially over at this point, and I feel that I've shown the things that I wanted to show. I hope people learned a bit about how to play the strategy game. I'm happy to discuss st...

Re: Commander Level After Action Report

This month was another bad one for ADVENT. I liberated Mexico, raided a super UFO, and caught two more UFOs, which will be raided next month. I didn't do as man missions, so the log is mercifully shorter August 15: Battlesuits -> Facility Lead (3 days) August 17: Battlescanners -> Shredstorm Cannons...
