True concealment

Post by Krzysztof z Bagien »

Mod compatibility list says that True Concealment mod "has a similar function to a mechanic built into LW2", but I've been playing for a while now and coudn't really notice any mechanic like True Concealment, timers seem to always start to count down at the begining of the mission, not when squad is revealed.
How is it supposed to work exactly?

I brought this up in the LW2 mod compatibility thread, but no one responded to it either. I think maybe there's just been a mistake because there's nothing like True Concealment in LW2.

Someone might be confusing it with some of the Shinobi's skills. Or maybe they badly misread Infiltration.

I'd argue that True Concealment should be a thing on data vault missions. Especially since Firebrand doesn't drop you off any more and ADVENT should have no idea you're coming, or what day you intend to start the op on, it makes no sense for them to suddonly start a ~2 minute self destruct on their own server the moment you sneak out on to the streets.

It's not that True Concealment is built in, it's that with the changes we made to pod patrol AI (they no longer automatically know where you are and rubberband to you while in concealment if you get between them and the objective) the optimal strategy IF True Concealment is enabled becomes to move forward 2 squares at a time and wait ~10 turns for pods to patrol exactly where you want them to. Stealth missions become less about skill and more about being willing to endure huge amounts of tedium. Since LW2 has ~120 missions in a typical campaign, incentivizing extreme tedium on a fairly common mission type was deemed kinda unfun (and unbalancing since stealth missions become pretty easy if you're willing to play them the "correct" way with True Concealment enabled).

Y'all are welcome to play how you like ofc, but the absence of True Concealment was an intentional thing. :)

This sounds like some of Beaglerush's "spiritual guidance".

There always seems to be a pod guarding the objective, so it wouldn't be possible to avoid fighting entirely. Also there's always a chance some patrolling enemies stumble upon you. If someone would want to play it slow - what's wrong with that (and that would seem to actually make sense in stealth missions, where enemy outnumbers you significantly)? It wouldn't be mandatory, you can start to fight right away.
Besides that - it really doesn't make any sense for ADVENT to blow up their own stuff when they aren't under attack.

Edit: and one more thing - maybe you should change the description in compatibility list, since there's nothing like true concealment in LW2.
