Customization Options upon reaching Sergent

One of the tool tips says you get more customization options when your soldiers reach Sergent. But I'm not sure what this means, I don't see any changes? What are you able to customize ?

Just some cosmetic things, like the cap

In RAW you were able to apply scars and other cosmetic features to your soldiers after they reached Sergeant.

Pretty much. They locked out a bunch of character customization options, presumably because they expected you to burn through rookies fast and didn't want you to spend hours customizing them only for them to die on their first mission.

And then they added the character pool function anyway which kinda defeats the point.
