Area Suppression Q?

Post by acestealth »

Is gunner area suppression not triggering reaction fire on target move an intended LOS thing? Seems since 1.1 my gunners hardly ever fire at movers anymore.

You have to have sufficient ammo. It takes 3 ammunition to begin the suppression, but each reaction shot takes an additional point of ammunition. So if you have 5 ammo when you area suppress 3 guys:

3 ammo goes away to start the suppression
you shoot at the first runner
you shoot at the second runner
the third runner is safe
you are out of ammo on your next turn

I actually think it's a great system.

Also, Vanilla had a (maybe) bug that wasn't changed for Long War in that reaction fire only triggers once the suppressed target has moved 2 or 3 tiles. If the target breaks line of sight before that (if, say, it's peeking around the side of a solid wall and moves out of sight behind the wall), you get no reaction fire.

It's unfortunate, but it's what we've got for now. Maybe in the future they'll fix it so it works like it did in LW1, in which reaction fire is triggered instantly.

On the bright side, this trick works for suppressed Xcom soldiers too. You can move 1 or 2 tiles while suppressed without triggering reaction, and more than that if you can break LOS quickly.
