Let's say I am working towards liberating a region, and I discover the second mission "rescue a defector" with only 2 days for infiltration.
Do I HAVE to take the mission, or start over and look for another lead, or wait for a second/third opportunity for the mission to respawn again (as in wait until I have a chance to fully infiltrate)?

Any fail/skip of a liberation mission does not reset the path. You'll have to detect it again (unless it's the tower or base, which are persistent once you unlock them).
