Mutons counterattacks Bladestorm
Mutons counterattacks Bladestorm
Did you guys know that? I mean if you slash muton by your will - it`s your mistake, but if you see muton running near your shinobi it`s totally out of your control and you are just: "No, please, no, no don`t hit him.. Shit, told ya"
Not sure if it is intended or not.

Huh good to know, this doesn't seem intentional. I wonder if you melee a muton when you have bladestorm you get to counter their counter =P

And what about gunners with the combative perk. Do you counter each other till someone fails their roll?

LOL we could make the arena then.LordYanaek wrote:And what about gunners with the combative perk. Do you counter each other till someone fails their roll?
Never took it on gunners though, Center Mass all the way, baby!
Re: Mutons counterattacks Bladestorm
I suspect the fighting stops after one exchange of melee attacks in both cases.Stroggus wrote:LOL we could make the arena then.LordYanaek wrote:And what about gunners with the combative perk. Do you counter each other till someone fails their roll?
Nah, go go Grazing Fire! Wickedly good when you get to plasma weapons, especially considering how 1.1 has hurt aim-based builds. Works well with Shredder and hitting with some damage when needed, like during Chain Shot, Cyclic Fire, and during reaction shots with Overwatch and Suppression.Stroggus wrote:Never took it on gunners though, Center Mass all the way, baby!

This was how Bladestorm functioned in vanilla so... Yes?Stroggus wrote:Did you guys know that? I believe you are correct that this is how it worked in vanilla.NoDebate wrote:This was how Bladestorm functioned in vanilla so... Yes?Stroggus wrote:Did you guys know that? A cursory glance at Reddit would reveal that Mutons did indeed counterattack vanilla Bladestorm.

Feels a bit UP when compared to say... Close Combat Specialist and/or Close Encounters.

Well I think for obvious reasons shinobis can't be good at both stealth and regular combat, or else the game would be renamed like naruto ninjastorm.NoDebate wrote:A cursory glance at Reddit would reveal that Mutons did indeed counterattack vanilla Bladestorm.

If they are built towards combat vs stealth though...trihero wrote:Well I think for obvious reasons shinobis can't be good at both stealth and regular combat, or else the game would be renamed like naruto ninjastorm.NoDebate wrote:A cursory glance at Reddit would reveal that Mutons did indeed counterattack vanilla Bladestorm.

Re: Mutons counterattacks Bladestorm
This does rather break balance though, as well as leading to "unfair" gameplay quirks.
Imagine if your soldier was using reaction fire to an advent running in front of you, but because you shot at it, the advent then reaction fired at you....killing you. While merely doing a move-to action. That seems like a poor design decision.
The same thing with the mutons. You have no means of preparing for something like that, as you didn't make any concuss actions other than being that particular class with that particular skill choice, and just happen to have a unit run into melee range. Are mutons Bain now, from Dark Knight Rises?
This is why pods and reinforcements don't get free combat actions on discovery, it's not fair to the player.
And it wouldn't be fair to the enemy AI if you could just run a melee soldier up to a target, melee, get countered, counter their counter, and kill them. Or for more comical releif: You move into melee range, trigger a counter attack, then you counter their counter; then you use your combat action to melee, trigger a counter attack, then you counter their counter.
In one turn, you've gained 3 combat actions on 1 target, or 2 combat actions on two different targets ( you sprint to a new target after the first counter exchange. ) I don't see how that is justified as "working as intended", even if it was an oversight in vanilla carried over to LW2; that just means it should have been "Fixed" like all the other 'quirks'.
On a related note: This is something that bothered me about Lightning Reflexes in both Xcom 1 and 2, and especially so for Chrysalids in LW mods; where a single unit could have infinite reactions ( and thus, 100% misses ), or seemingly infinite ( because of squad size ).
And it also bothers me when Mutons get free movement actions when being shot at ( though this can be abused, it's not the point, but leads to another negative ). Nothing like seeing a Muton go from 2 screens away to right in your face after a few rounds of pot shots.

I'm surprised the Sectoids don't just shoot the Mutons to "encourage" them into battle....JoeShmo wrote:And it also bothers me when Mutons get free movement actions when being shot at ( though this can be abused, it's not the point, but leads to another negative ). Remember how small and scrawny sectoids used to be, then remember mutons charge the dude who shoots them.Jacke wrote:I'm surprised the Sectoids don't just shoot the Mutons to "encourage" them into battle....JoeShmo wrote:And it also bothers me when Mutons get free movement actions when being shot at ( though this can be abused, it's not the point, but leads to another negative ).
