How to read game messages on map screen?

When on the bridge scanning, often tons of messages pop up for half a second with no time to read them; things like "So and so is fully healed", "Resistance operatives gained in Mexico", etc. Long War seems to add a lot more of these messages but it's almost impossible to catch them... is there a log somewhere to see what the message was? Or a way to slow down the text so I have time to read it?
