Why do Shinobi's get 5 hacking per level?

Is there any reason why Shinobi's gain 5 hacking per level (as per the wiki: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php/Shinobi_(LW2))

Doesn't look like there are any hacking skills that you can gain from the AWC.. does anyone know if hacking is useful on a Shinobi?

Ah, ok after reading the equipment page, it looks like they would be 2nd candidates for the skulljack.

Skulljack gives +25 hacking, so 25+45 would be 70 hacking, enough to use one without too much feedback.

A Stealth Shinobi is also great on 2-3 man Stealth team for Jailbreak and Hacking missions. He can sneak in, hack the objective, then get out and back into Stealth. Thus, from time to time you will be able to get those extra rewards from hacking the objective.

Might I use this thread to ask how the 70 percent chance when skulljacking are calculated? Would an assault horrible at hacking also get 70 percent chance to skulljack?

There are two separate chance numbers - the first is to actually hit your target, which is a flat 70% and can not be modified, or at least I have never seen it modified.

The second is the actual Hack chance when the blades connect with your target and you access the system. Then and there your hack score influences your chances to get a reward, but you will still automatically kill your target.

This is the to-hit-chance of the skulljack, it's set in the <gameinstallfolder>/XComGame/Config/DefaultGameGore.ini, under the [XComGame.X2AbilityToHitCalc_StasisLance] tag so to speak(row number 1834 according to Notepad++). The "BASE_CHANCE=70" sets the hit chance, so set it to 100 like I have on my WotC -game and it will always hit.
I can't say that the LW changes it, but you might have to check the .ini's in it.

Don't you still deal like 20dmg? Some T3 ADVENT survive it.

Yep, you can change it in the .ini files but there is no ingame way to influence it. That is what I meant by "you can not modify it"

@ Dwarfling

They did update the damage in the last patch from what I recall. Now it should kill every type and tier of Advent soldier.

Just to clarify the damage update is for skulljack only, and not skullmine. T3's may still survive a hit with skullmine.

cant this be cheesed whereby it can be used with a run and gun on an assault or even a shinobi to insta-kill high hp units?

It only works on Advent and it goes a bit weird if you try and use it one the elite M3s with >20HP.

But it serves as a powerful offensive option for a soldier that is mainly support, like a specialist. It works like fleche, so no need to put on a special class.

The hit chance is always 70%. Worth having failsafe or good hack score though as, although the 20 damage is guaranteed if you hit, you'll take a little feedback damage if you fail the hack (a second roll). But it's not that risky as if you miss the 70% to-hit you get a free action. So you can pull back or shoot the target in the face instead.
