If you're a player that likes to extend the game, you've probably noticed that load times increase as you keep going.

However, it is most severe if you load off a Strategic save, if you load from a tactical save, it is not as bad.

I stopped recruiting new soldiers a long time ago, and now, if I try to, the game ctd. I think the game keeps assigning rebels to the recruitment barracks and causes the game to load ever more slowly over time.

Is this possible....?

You can disband soldiers. Recruit 100 and disband them. If it fixes your game good but game tends to crash anyway.

That's the thing - I can't, as when I click on "recruit" the game makes a long pause, and starts to slowly generate the list of soldiers available, and then ctd.

I believe the list is now so long it is what is slowing down the game. loading saves of the strategy layer take aeons, while tactical layer saves are relatively quick.
