How to find alien facilities?

Post by Kharneth »

The doom counter just reach the end and i haven't found any alien facility to down it in the entire game. How i can find one? I already liberate my first region, skullajck an officer and take the vial from the black site. And currently building the shadow chamber.

And another question, is there any reward in assault an alien CC and liberate a region beyond the first one?

Thanks!!!

Sometimes from missions, or hacking, you will receive a "facility lead" item in in your inventory. (this is different than the invisible liberation "lead" for the quest chain). It is a possible reward whenever you see "find a lead" in the objectives and it's not a liberation mission.

If you research it in the lab (it takes a few days + some intel), you will then get the location to one of the alien facilities on the map.

They are the same layout as in vanilla except chock full of enemies (30+?), and I think the reinforcements are eventually infinite but I don't stay around long enough to find out.

Strange, I did not get any rnf on the facilities.

I thought the lead let you assult a facility in an un-contacted region.

Revealing the faciliy on the map is a mystery to me, the log tells me doom is being added in western europe, but I've just contaced there and no facility.

Presumably some other mechanism makes them visible, it may be the same as vanilla but I don't know how that works either.

The "some other mechanism" is already as I explained it:

Facilities in LW2 are invisible until you research a facility lead. You can go the whole game and contact 16/16 regions and never see a facility because again, you have to research a lead to see them (one lead per one facility).

It does NOT serve the vanilla function of "letting you assault a facility in an uncontacted region." It simply allows you to see the facility at all to begin with. I don't remember if in LW2 you have to be in contact with the region in order to assault the facility because I tend to contact everything as fast as possible, but that's something you can figure out.

Haven't done an Alien facility raid yet, but is this really the only way to gain access to them?(Intel Packages) Seems way to much RNG especially if I need to reduce the Avatar counter pronto.

I think it is also possible to get them from skullmining advent.

I usually seem to have 2-3 in my inventory without trying hard for it by October or so.

Oh, I've found one by end Nov so that may be why doom is fast approaching for me. Got mine by skullmining I think. I have left a lot of missions to get leads however, because my big teams are busy/can't infil in time and 1 man stealth isn't possible.

Ya, I'm really jammed up by this as well.
i was hitting every mission i could handle... and have gotten ONE facility lead. Used it to assault a facility a long time ago... now my counter is right near the end and i can't do anything about it.

I restored to an earlier saved game, and have been doing every mission with 'lead' in the rewards, but it doesn't yield a facility lead.

Desperate, I tried to find a way to use the console commands to give myself a Facility Lead item, just to buy more time to try to find one legitimately... but no luck. I did do the RemoveFortressDoom command, which bought me 3 pips on the bar, which instantly filled back up a few days later.

I'm prettyy bummed out about it...
I was really enjoying myself... but I'm not about to start over again... i've poured so much time and energy into my team, i just dont have it in me to wipe them out and begin again, just because i don't understand how to find these leads.

What exactly are intel packages, btw? Are they actual items like an Advent datapad that must be researched? If so, do you have to find them on a body or do you get them as an automatic mission reward? And are they a possible piece of loot on any mission or just those mentioning an intel package? (I used to think they were just chunks of intel added to the mission discovery counter)

Some other person mentioned that a Lead will sometimes give you the location of a facility. Is that true? I thought that Leads are the bonus treasure pickups you get after a mission, like an Advent Mech, a soldier or random loot items.

Finally, whom do you have to skullmine to get a facility location? Officers only? And only in the region you know a facility to be in?
And will the skullmining result in automatic facility discovery or give you a datapad you have to research?

Intel packages are an abstraction for information you gather from advent installations or hacks. You never actually collect them, they are automatically awarded when you finish a mission with an Intel Package as a reward. You don't have to research them, you immediately learn whatever information they contained.
Some of the stuff you can "find" in an intel package include
  • Location of the Advent HQ (for the liberation quest)
  • A facility lead (that must be researched)
  • Location of a Point of Interest (scansite)
  • Location of "golden path" missions such as the Blacksite

need to build the shadow chamber still....

so before i went back to an earlier saved game, i did manage to build the chamber, and attack and grab the psionic gateway... but they researched right back into the countdown, and it only gave me 10 days... by the time i had something else to hit, i could only send a small team in time. only 5 of us, managed to kill 44/48 of them though!

at this point i restored a few months back and tried to focus on intel missions, but it didn't matter.
I've given up and am moving on to another game.

RIP, but you really built stuff like shadow chamber way too late. People who have beaten L/I did so by early December, so you are way off if you haven't even done psi gate by late december.

I can accept that... but i still don't understand why i couldn't find any facility leads... i found ONE through the entire time i was playing.

I honestly get 1 or 2 by october without even trying, from those intel package rewards and sometimes even from destroying the relay rewards. You can also directly manufacture skulljacks and hit up those advent troops to fish for them as well. This is where the failsafe perk is very handy to prevent your specialist from getting hurt from a failed skulljack.

I recommend this mod. It allows you to assign rebels to look for Avatar Facilities, only works in liberated regions though so it's an additional incentive to liberate as much regions as possible.
