Network Tower hack doesn't count

Post by SouthpawHare »

I've been massively enjoying my run of LW2, but I just recently had a squad wipe on the Network Tower mission. I thought I had actually been quite fortunate, since my specialist managed to make a mad dash to the console and complete the mission to hack the tower and deliver the broadcast before being overwhelmed by 20+ remaining enemies (42 or so spawned, an insane amount). I knew she wasn't getting out alive, but at least she completed the mission.

Sadly, the outcome didn't count at all. I don't know if this is actually a bug or if it's intended behavior, but considering that the hacking command clearly states that it "delivers Shen's surprise", I would call it in error. I do not believe that any of the remaining aliens on that tower building proper could have stopped my successful liberation broadcast after that point. I recommend fixing it as such.

The mission consists of a squad that needs to make its way to a console to hack the network tower which will turn off the reinforcement timer before eliminating all enemies on a the map.

From the wiki. I guess it says as much on the mission objectives as well.

Being listed as an objective doesn't necessarily mean that it's mandatory. Most missions list "EVAC all XCOM operatives" as a final objective, but you can still complete the mission even if you don't get everyone out. This should definitely be no different. Most likely, it is a hold-over from when the mission was used as the climax of the vanilla story. Once the message goes out, it should be out and the mission should be a success.

This was the case in vanilla and it got changed in LW2. So the clearing of the tower is designed that way.

"Evac all operatives" is the mission end condition. Same with "kill all enemies" on the tower assault.
