Rescued Soldier Bugging Out

Issue :
I rescued two soldiers which were previously captured. They showed up odd in the squad select screen, without carrying any gear (weapon or armor). Didn't think much of it, equipped them and sent them on their way to infiltrate.
Now I am on the mission and can't use them : http://imgur.com/uMBXrOx
Note that they also didn't appear in my Squad Roster for some reason. I ignored that initially thinking maybe it will fix itself after the mission.
