Shinobi treason !

I've not come across this one before .. Loading into a smash&grab with a team of 6 and after the screen scrolls to where my squad has spawned in i hear the familure sound of a sword cutting flesh. Weird.. anyway, I roll forward and when i get to my specialist i notice hes missing 2 health.

Restarting the map reveals my shinobi swinging her sword and seemingly striking the specialist even tho they're several tiles away from each other.

Reloading replicates the results every time. Luckily she only does 2 damage i guess... ?

Shinobi is a gunnery sergeant completely spec'd sword.

Fresh 1.3 campaign.

Thanks for the save! This one is pretty fascinating, because it looks like there are two separate bugs here.

The sword slice bug actually appears harmless: it's just a visualization bug in the Whirlwind shinobi perk. When the mission starts the passive effect gets applied to the shinobi, which was incorrectly set up and triggers the sword-slice animation. As this is a passive ability, it shouldn't have any visualization at all. It should trigger pretty much every time you start a mission with a shinobi with that perk, but doesn't actually "hit" anyone.

So the other question is: how the heck did Sonar lose 2 hp? And I don't know the answer to that one yet, other than he only had 3 HP when he started the mission! It looks like there is a bug somewhere that allowed you to take them on the mission despite being wounded.

I can confirm this "Sword slice sound" continually occurs at the beginning of some missions in my games too. At first, i thought this was because i had TWO Shinobis in that squad.. but, can't prove if that's the case.
One thing though is that it is reproducible and persistant with THAT particular squad & that the second Shinobi does have the Whirlwind Perk.

As you said TT, it most probably means that its UnitState is falsely initialized with the FreeAction while in the DropZone & the start-turn gets confused by the incorrect condition(s) that triggers the sword action (which happens while we still can't see the entire squad & their HUD-Flag elements -- hinting to me that the INIT process is into the regular check loop or doing other tasks, btw).

I had the sword sound in every mission with my sword shinobi and found it funny. Now i know where it comes from.

Wounded soldier on mission : i remember noticing that sometimes if i use autofill and there isn't enough available soldiers the game will add wounded soldiers to the squad but i don't know if it's a LW2 issue or if it comes from Robojumper's Squad Select.
