Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Thanks, everyone, for your support. We're bummed it isn't happening. We did look at the WotC code and concluded it would have been a significant undertaking to adapt LW2, but it would be incorrect to think we were unwilling to do it.
Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Sad to hear that PI won't be making this happen themselves (as they are experts in the matter) but hopefully some other modder will pick up the task and make it a reality. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make for anyone involved.
Like many others, I'm looking forward to Terra Invicta, so I'm looking forward to what comes of that now that Pavonis' people are all free to work on that game.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
I'm visibly one of the very rare gamers here who likes both LW2 and WotC (the first for its depth and the second for its "fun factor"). It's really sad you can't give us the perfect game .
I hope you will meet success with Terra Invicta, even if I'm not in Grand Strategy myself .
Be well !

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
yeah the engine improvements are very noticeable and would be great in LW2archangel wrote:WotC brought in some awesome engine improvements. I would be happy if someone was just able to let us play LW2 as it is in WotC improved engine. I don't even need any of the other "gameplay improvements" WotC brought. Mostly because I consider them inferior.

Ugh, that sucks. WotC was fun for a playthrough, but I really wanted more LW style gameplay.
I hope TI goes well.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Ah shame i hoped that in the end you guys would be given the go ahead to make long war of the chosen. Too bad.
Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Sorry that PI won't be doing a Long War mod for WotC. Glad that you can move on with TI.
It almost makes me wish I'd not purchased WotC. Because there's separate executables and assets for both base XCOM 2 and WotC, having WotC bloats XCOM 2 to 70GB. And it can't update because Steam chokes and says it needs a lot more free space than it should. So I have to delete XCOM 2 and then reinstall it. And WotC without a LW mod is less worth it. I'll have to see what the rest of the XCOM 2 modding community puts out.

I will sell WoTC and donate money. Or should I donate WoTC ?

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Really sad that we won't be seeing Long War for WotC and have to choose between LW2 and WotC. I was looking forward to playing Long War 2 in XCOM2, but without WotC it would feel incomplete.
Seeing the close cooperation between Pavonis and Firaxis/2K, I wonder why was it not possible to develop LW as an optional part of the main XCOM game, or maybe even include LW2 as a part of WotC. But I guess there are good reasons why things ended up the way they did.
Thank you for all your hard work on LW and good luck with your new game.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
They should. I can't remember playing vanilla. I forgot that I have game than I start reading that LW2 1.2 is out.
What ? I missed 1.0 and 1.1 ?
I stopped Witcher 3 play ( main reason of not playing XCOM 2 ) and start download all mods. Then I broke the game. Then I manually arranged and reselcted all mods.
Then I broke game again .
Then I broke game again .

Whole month (mod friendly my a..s) .
Just to play LW2

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Presumably there's no chance you would do a kickstarter or something for WotC support? Is there a dollar amount that would justify the time not spent on your own game? (Or a monthly version of a kickstarter or whatever).

I don't think it's about the money, rather about the time investment.JackDT wrote:Presumably there's no chance you would do a kickstarter or something for WotC support? That said, if a campaign was up, I'd back it
Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
They can not launch a campaign for a mod to an intelectual property they do not own. Technically they do not have the rights to Long War 2 as far as I understand it, because 2K has commissioned and managed the mod from the onset.
Because of that even donations for Long War 2 are not accepted.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
It is mod.
Game supports mods.
Anybody can continue work.
Long War 2 WoTC for free. Nice thing. 3rd party can accept donations but can't sell mod .
STEAM is known for selling the mods.
REMEMBER the Skyrim.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
It’s a real shame. You guys were literally the only reason I bought WOTC. Didn’t like the look of it from start and literally got it just for the assets for LW2.
Thanks so much for all you’ve done to make this game a good one. I’ve spent a lot of free time on bother first and second Long Wars. You guys are my favorite modding/dev team and I eagerly await TI.
I just wish I could return WotC...

I mean if they're accepting donations to work on a mod... They are effectively selling the mod, because they are accepting money to work on it. You certainly can't convince any judge that isn't true regardless of what you believe.SonnyWiFiHr wrote:Long War 2 WoTC for free. Nice thing. 3rd party can accept donations but can't sell mod .
Which is distinctively a thing that cannot be done with LW2 due to it's relation to 2k
Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
Long War 2 War of the Chosen edition will be essentially a mod to Long War 2, which from my understanding is managed by 2K concerning intelectual property rights.
I am not sure what rights 2K have wavered concerning the distribution and assets of Long War 2, that is what Pavonis should know. Nonetheless, it has been stated that everyone can use the assets of Long War 2 to create their own mods provided they give credit to the original mod.
I do hope that some time in the future there will be some adaption by Pavonis, done on the side. There have been quite a few developers who have gone to make mods for their games just to tie up some loose ends that officially they could not do at the time.

Re: Announcement regarding LW2+WotC
All in all, we’ve been spoiled. Xcom, LW, EU, EULW, X2, LW2, and WotC have offered incredible replay value from essentially two games. LWotC may have been the crème de la crème. Sorry it didn’t work out. I am grateful for the many hours I have spent playing all of these games, less WotC -- which I haven’t played, and probably never will.
The synergy between Paradox and PI has been perfect. PI has been able to turn a decent game into a great game multiple times, and is the main reason why many of us played, and why Xcom sold so well. Why TakeTwo Interactive has yet to purchase PI is beyond me. PI’s creative talent, work ethic, and ability to deliver is spectacular. Imagine what TI might be with the support of a large studio?
All is not completely lost, however. If a dollar amount is the reason negotiations for LWotC sputtered, we can easily make that up. Crowdfunding the project would probably have to be approved and coordinated through Paradox or their parent company, TTWO. It can be done, but it might take “bring-back-Star-Trek” type effort.
Count me in, if you do. If not, good luck to all of you!
Thank you for the great LW games!

Donation is donation. Pavonis Int. have contract other modders do not have contracts.JulianSkies wrote:I mean if they're accepting donations to work on a mod... My concern now is why I can detect 12 days mission with 6 rebels and in same time 8 days Lib 1 and in same time 2 day mission.
RequiredRebelMissionIncome
DiscoveryPctChancePerDayPerHundredMissionIncome (this what bugs me but I will get it) ; Higher means easier to detect
I still play mod . And my save scumming guide gives me different results. I just smashed my first region to vigilance 9 under 14 days ( I m on tower).
But I m opening 3rd region . I m glad that I stopped my Legendary because I m now reading the scripts to figure out how to play.
And there is a lot of stuff to read. Big mod. Nice job to Pavonis this is DLC not a mod
Just need really good guide (everything explained) to play it

This is sad news, to be sure. I do appreciate the direct communication about it though. I wish PI all the best with the development of their own title.

I think it's a really good decision and think 1.5 is at a good place to leave it. Looking forward to the game you're working on.

Just a note that a mod team is forming up to adapt LW2 to work with WotC. We certainly support their efforts. Subforum set up here:
