ok did some testing, aka an intentional poor run on gate crasher a few times in a row. if set to true your first dead xcom unit will always die, if set to false they will bleed out some of the time. So I was reading the XCOMLW_Overhaul.ini and I found this line of code:
FIRST_ROOKIE_DIES=TRUE
What exactly it does? What happens if I set it to false?

What about Continent Bonuses? Have you guys touched it? And how placing radio towers affects the infiltration mechanic?
