Re: Just The Network Tower?

I do it all the time. Free radio towers are always good, whereas liberation can be double edged. Basically, I do tower missions anytime one is available at reasonable strength levels, and do liberations only when I have a specific reason to do so.

Re: Aliens hitting me frequently through full cover

I want to modify something I said earlier. It looks like aliens do get range bonuses, but only against flanked targets, which is different from how XCOM aim rules work. Perfect Information correctly displays this bonus when it is relevant.

Re: Aliens hitting me frequently through full cover

So I did a controlled test run just to see. I used the console to create a soldier with 10,000 health, zero defense and zero dodge, set graze band to zero, and then set up a Rendezvous mission. I had the rebels grenades themselves to death, then cleared out all the aliens except for a trooper. I put...

Re: Is wet work worth it now?

Generally my rule of thumb for whether I'm bothered by something (or find it "gamey") is if it's narratively dissonant. In this case, I don't find that narratively dissonant - it makes sense that if you're part of a squad that successfully completes a very difficult mission you will get m...

Re: Is wet work worth it now?

My personal preference would be that xp be based on the baseline (eg 100% infiltration) amount of aliens, and nothing else. No kill xp, no bonus xp for underinfiltrating, no loss of xp for over infiltrating. Makes things way less game-y. Probably is the province of mods, though.

They don't give mission xp, which is the lion's share of the total xp, but they definitely give kill xp.

Re: Do grenadiers extra grenades reduce mobility?

There seems to be some confusion here. Mobility and infiltration penalties are applied for each slot that has an item in it. You only get this penalty once per slot, no matter how many charges that item has (multiple grenades in one slot are really just one item with several charges). I think that i...

They actually end up giving you four points. The +3 vigilance is a bonus to the default +1 that you get for completing missions, it doesn't replace it.

Re: Questions/feedback about Smash & Grab

So, I just got a Smash and Grab in a Vigilance 18 region, which should be impossible. I decided to check the config, to see if the wiki is wrong. And it is, as it turns out. Smash and Grabs have no limitations at all, which is something that no other General Op has. This is really good. It's a signi...

Re: [INI] CovertnessValue & CovertnessWeight

I solved it. I can now calculate the time mod and it matches the in game results. you take the weighted average of a soldier's gear: (sum of values*weights)/(sum of weights) For the default soldier with three grenades, this results in a score of 100, which is a nice clean number. Every mission type ...

Re: [INI] CovertnessValue & CovertnessWeight

The Chameleon Suit: Like an empty item slot it has 0 CovertnessValue, but instead of 0.2 weight it has 0.75 weight. This will cause a reduction in hours above what you get for an empty slot. Hang on, I just processed this. I had figured that 0*.2 and 0*.75 ended up being the same thing, because I t...

Re: [INI] CovertnessValue & CovertnessWeight

Since we're getting into details, there are a few other weird trends. SMGs actually get stealthier (in terms of infiltration) with increasing tech tier. No other primary weapon does this. This makes updating your SMGs a priority, even if you don't intend to actually fire them. PsiAmps also get bette...

I'm not being trolly. It is my serious and sincere opinion that you are being too literal and are thereby not understanding me. I also didn't mention alloys, I'm getting those too. Anyways, I just posted the the loot tables so you can look at them and judge for yourself.

Re: Questions/feedback about Smash & Grab

They are your primary source. At least, they are for me. Supply raids and troop ambushes are jackpots that don't happen all that often. Smash and Grabs are steady payouts that you get all the time. And reading your post very carefully, antifringe, you are also not getting any elerium from S&G. Y...

Re: Questions/feedback about Smash & Grab

I think this is just random distribution. I've been getting 40-100 supplies regularly during the first few months. Smash and Grabs are just normal General Ops, and follow the same rules as the others. The wiki has it all. You'll stop seeing them when vigilance hits 13, which is also the cut off poin...

Re: [INI] CovertnessValue & CovertnessWeight

Some take aways: Fiddling with you soldiers' gear doesn't make much of a difference for larger squads unless you fiddle with everyone's gear. The lowest modifier you can get without perks is -17 hours (no items, SMG weapon, non-Gunner, non-Grenadier, elite suppressor). You'll only get this number in...

Re: [INI] CovertnessValue & CovertnessWeight

Funny, because I started looking at those recently myself. So, covertnessweight and covertnesssvalue get multiplied together to give you a final "covertness score." It may seem weird to not just have a single number for this, but it makes sense from a design standpoint. Here are the covert...

Re: Your least favorite things about 1.3 ?

I really enjoy 1.3 overall but I don't like the change to shotgun damage. Run and Gun really needs to kill the target to not be a sacrifice play and it's too reliable now at low levels. I'm letting it play out to give it a fair chance, but so far this is in the "not for me" category. No bi...

Re: 1.3 Too many turns, too easy!!

Uh... they're pretty clearly not the same thing? I missed the timer by two turns, and instead of getting an autowipe, I just had to beeline for the evac. Take a few hits at the end, but got out with the objective and only scattered damage. Not even close to be the same result with the hard timer.

Re: PI thoughts on mod that gives player vigilance information

I disagree, at least partially. Vigilance isn't just an AI variable, it's also a mechanic that directly affects the AVATAR timer, and the in-game documentation hints at this. Knowing the vigilance scores is important when making decisions about whether to liberate or not, since liberation sets local...

Re: 1.3 Too many turns, too easy!!

1.3 effectively turns off the hard timers, which nobody liked, and has replaced them with a soft timer. It may say that you have 20 turns, but somewhere around 8-10 turns you start getting escalating reinforcements every turn.

I'm pretty sure he knows about the config slider. This is a guy who has studied the mechanic enough to be able to start drawing up graphs and proposing formulas, after all. The slider doesn't do what he wants. He doesn't want to turn it off, he wants it to minimize it for high-end shots while retain...
