Re: Reinforcement spam has completely ruined LW2 for me
I remember one Jailbreak mission in an earlier Legendary campaign. It was on a huge urban map (and this was stock LW2, I have no map mods). Had 3 soldiers. They ran as fast as possible, Shinobi leading. Saw 1 pod off to the side and bypassed them. Got to the jail. Sprang the prisoner. Ran as fast as...

Re: Looking for opinions on my strategy if trying legend
With VIP starting unconcealed, my predicament is he will be spotted between turn 3 and 4 and survive until turn 5 at best. I mean, yeah, dice rolling is kinda strategy, but it would be nice to have at least 50% chance of positive outcome. Everyone one on your side without Phantom will start unconce...

Re: Ambushes and Supply Raids kicking my a**
I thought the key of the Arc Thrower was that if you get Electroshock you have a tool that can stop an overwatch or suppression and prevent the enemy from using some skills (but not the only or best tool to do so). And when you need to capture live aliens, you can if you're careful and lucky (and ho...

Re: Ambushes and Supply Raids kicking my a**
why not just kill the target instead After you lock down a target with sting grenades or something, you still need to kill them, and if you don't bring enough damage you'll need to lock them down again. Of course you do. You always need more firepower than just the Grenadier (or the Technical). Con...

Re: Looking for opinions on my strategy if trying legend
Something to remember is that Long War 2 is just out and will likely see a lot of tuning over the next while. I'm not playing in Ironman as I like to be able to back up a bit to learn better and have a better game. As well, there are bugs. And especially display bugs that can be fixed by saving and ...

Re: Ambushes and Supply Raids kicking my a**
I have recently been seeing the power of support GLs and Stun gunners, but then what? I stun/flash/etc., but then I need a way to kill them. Wouldn't that involve explosives to pop cover? Or just have sharps/rangers stack aim boosts and hope for best? This is usually a pod cracking attack from conc...

Re: Ambushes and Supply Raids kicking my a**
But what about bringing a support grenadier instead of stun assault? Flashbang = aoe arcthrower....hmm! It's an AoE sit down shut up tool. What am I missing here? Limited ammo is not really a consideration considering how many flashbangs a support grenadier can bring. Disorient is good, yes, but wh...

Cheers for the advice all. In the end I started a new campaign, taking on everyone's advice, playing the game a lot more cautiously this time... third time lucky. Pro tip equip everyone with med kits, takes the edge f wipers.... Personal preference Iron man is the only way to play xcom IMO, live by...

Re: Any success with overwatch perks
If by Danger Close, you mean Danger Zone, what about swapping that for Cool Under Pressure? Aim +10 for reaction shots, overwatch and suppression, and reaction shots can now crit.

Re: Using snipers effectively.
If a Sharpshooter gets Kill Zone as an AWC skill, would Long Watch be worth it then? Precision Shot means passing up Damn Good Ground. A shot with better crit chance and damage every 3 turns versus better aim and defence on higher ground all the time. Maybe. BTW, does Damn Good Ground apply to a Pis...

Re: Picking Soldier Classes for Rookies Not Created Equally
So could have 4 types of Officers:
Shinob Stealth Escorters with Oscar Mike just need 1 or 2 likely
Shinobi Stealth Squad with Focus Fire etc.
Technical Haven with Focus Fire, maybe also Get Some
Sharpshooter Holotargeter Squad with Focus Fire etc.

Re: Using snipers effectively.
Thanks for that on Low Profile!
How about Long Watch? If the soldier has AWC overwatch perks, then yeah, and Alpha Mike Foxtrot usually too. But taking it passes up Deadshot. Is it worth the trade?

In practice, how useful is Low Profile instead of Center Mass? It would give the Sharps better protection at a minimum cost if discovered and fired upon.

Re: Picking Soldier Classes for Rookies Not Created Equally
"...command/mic from the shadows." What does the "/mic" mean? I assume you mean the Specialist officer outranks the Shinobi officer because the Specialist would get more training in the GTS. Isn't use of stealth Shinobi officers affected by their Command Range? It goes from 8 to ...

Re: Getting more Elerium in mid-late game
Elerium Core shortages is the reason the mod Elerium Grounds exists (which also provides upgrading to Spider Suits and EXO Suits). Not that you should install a mod (or mod the game INI files directly) just because there's a challenge. But I can understand why too.

Re: Using snipers effectively.
My sharpshooter spiders up on top of a bus stop. I check my targets, nearly 100% to hit anything I want. This was my first time using Serial ever, in 300+ hours of Xcom2. In one turn, with an expanded magazine, an autoloader, AP rounds, in a mag long rifle, my sniper killed 12 advent, totally saved...

Re: Avenger Defence Mission
If you literally cannot handle them as they come to you, then it's simply a mistake you made in preparation at some point prior to the mission. Even if your specialist hack score sucks, 2 applications of combat protocol will kill longbows with 100% accuracy. If you keep saying things like well I di...

Re: Gunners Builds
I should have added 4 Formidable as an alternative in the original post; I've edited it. Always wanting to take something else, but always wanting to take it to get early armour and blast protection. I'm inclining towards trihero's build now. Gunner Grazing Fire - Shredder - Demolition - Chain Shot ...

Gunners Builds
Still trying to nail this one down. As with the Ranger, I'd like to stick to just one build for Gunners (all other starting classes have 2 or more for 16 builds total. :) ) Currently: Gunner Grazing Fire - Shredder - Iron Curtain - Chain Shot - Cool Under Pressure - Saturation Fire - Rupture Hopeful...

Re: Sapper/needle grenades, heat/tandem, combat engineer/full kit
Iron Curtain is, IMO, far superior to Demolition. Gunners have far better things to do than take out one lousy tile of cover. Maybe. Well, i'm in my first campaign on veteran so strategies might be different on higher difficulties but i'd sure rather destroy one cover for sure than fail at destroyi...

Re: Picking Soldier Classes for Rookies Not Created Equally
Rangers are sometimes close range troops, but not as often as Assaults and Shinobis. They're likely to catch more fire being on overwatch a lot.Valaska wrote:Rangers are not close range troops, give your highest aim to rangers and just wreck everything.

Re: Any success with overwatch perks
Edit: a couple more cents: there are some still very annoying mobs that counter overwatch in general, which makes rangers not the answer to everything- advent scouts, sidwinders have shadowstep so they don't trigger it at all. Elite vipers and chrysalids have Lightning Reflexes built in. Dark event...

Re: Using snipers effectively.
From reading the recent post on ADVENT HQ missions: http://www.pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=24141 I now see the utility of a left-side Sharpshooter build, as trihero mentioned a while back. Sharpshooter Sniper Death From Above - Damn Good Ground - Deadshot - Low Profile - A...

Do Aim & Crit buff skills affect Rockets & Grenades ?
I've got a Grenadier I'm planning to skill with my mixed build: Needle Grenades - Heavy Ordinance - Bluescreen Bombs - Sting Grenades - Biggest Booms - Volatile Mix - Full Kit Just made Sgt. And she has a interesting AWC skills: Offensive: Executioner% - Bring 'Em On* - Aggression% Defensive: Covert...
