They are a 6-man alien pod. There are certain enemies that are forced starting at certain force levels, the rest are random aliens. They replace the rainbow pod when they show up. In general it's a 50/50 whether you get the rainbow pod or the alien pod schedule.

Another thing people haven't mentioned -- underinfiltrating increases the chance of green-alert or yellow-alert reactions by 1% per % underinfiltrated. Master Enemy is only meant to work on Advent MECs, not Drones or Sectopods. Your getting a resistance mec which has it's own template/stats, and is more or less the same model as the Advent MECs. I found the bug for this. The event handler wasn't being removed properly for the TrojanVirus effect that is added to the enemy unit. It fires at the beginning of every turn, both player and enemy.
