Re: My star solider this campaign
I kind of broke the AWC with the mod that lets you respec AWC perks and then .ini edited the mod to reduce time and cost for doing so. It adds a new dimension to character customization (sub class of class variations) and I find it fun. As a trade-off I don't go with psi's at all so the AWC changes ...

Re: Environmental Damage Falloff on Cone Attacks
Seems highly counter intuitive that environmental damage increases at range. Are those damage numbers pulled from an .ini file?

Re: Ironman Commander+
What kind of "rage-inducing bugs"..? Cover that doesn't work and reveal tiles that won't show properly (even if you see the whole pod). Also the missions boosted by a Liberation seem to bug out and load improperly. Add to that not being able to move from a roof tile after it took damage.

Re: Technical Flame Guy
Flame technicals are fun. I've only played them on vet campaigns so far but they can be a little problematic late game where the ability to ambush burn things becomes less effective due to detection range. They can also lag a bit in damage output if M3's start showing up and you don't yet have the t...

Re: Just had my first Invasion
I want to say there was an Xwynns video (somewhere in season 2) where he explains the relay thing. I'm probably not remembering correctly but the thing with relays is if they're on a roof tile and you deal a minimum amount of damage in a single attack it will explode; so you can essentially one shot...

Re: MEC pods and enemy count in early UFOs and Troop Columns
Interesting. I had my first UFO ever about a month ago and was vaguely disappointed because the command pod was a MEC pod, which felt sort of lame for a UFO encounter...cause you know, aliens. At any rate I think it was a force level 6 and the command pod was 6 MECs iirc. Two super heavy's, two arch...

Re: Mid-campaign thoughts
Everything Dwarfling mentioned plus the fact that they're in the tubes all the time. Seems counterproductive from a gameplay enjoyment perspective for me that you have this class you don't get to spend a lot of time with because in order to advance them they have to sit in layaway all the time. I te...

Re: How do you plan/follow your new campaigns?
I'm not a fan of EXO's just because of aesthetics but the Early Basic Research lets you get past research requirements if you happen to have some issues with getting scientists. YMMV though, like I said. I'd like to try the Lab again on a different campaign to see if it's a sound strat and not just ...

Re: How do you plan/follow your new campaigns?
I'm definitely no expert but I did something different this campaign that has made a huge difference. I built a laboratory before either the AWC or GTS; then went GTS->AWC. Prior to and while waiting to build the lab I did several rounds of basic research to start off with too. It put me at a slight...

Re: First death, incredibly soured.
I know that, yes. It's not always possible to break Overwatches, though. I've had instances of pods with three Sentries that Overwatch nearly every turn, without being close enough to catch with a single flashbang, and not having enough grenades to go around. Volume of fire for grazes sometimes wor...

Re: Post campaign feedback
I have a late game snapshot sniper on my current campaign that's working out pretty good. I ended up with a rookie at 71 aim and 18 speed and decided to give it a try since I had a pretty full barracks already. Power leveled him and he's been working awesomely. The biggest difference for me in parti...

Re: Chryssalid Queen poison damage
I know that rupture doesn't change dot damage. I've had a few stacks of rupture on a target once and inflicted a burning proc after the rupture applications from dragon rounds on said target. The burning damage only ended up ticking for 1 damage.LordYanaek wrote: As far as i know only crits change the DoT.

Some game play videos of your extreme luck would be interesting and/or entertaining. We've all been hit by 1% chance hits...but there seems to be something about your luck in particular. I've definitely had my own experiences about requiring an entire 5-6 squad to kill one lowly T1 grenadier over mu...

I was wondering that too. I've never noticed the Chitin plating description saying it reduces melee damage.TrainInVain wrote:I may be blind but I don't see where Chitin plating says it reduces melee damage. Checked in game and ufopaedia.

Re: How important is mobility?
[*]Shotgun builds can be really fun with high mobility/low aim rangers. They start with the Sawed off which makes them very strong early. Later with access to both RF and Implacable they can make some very efficient "hit and run" soldiers and at that point they will want to use a shotgun ...

Re: Psi Gate Activity?
Your advice is solid and I appreciate it but I'll have to wait until next time to try some of it. Ran it last night to finally get it out of the way. Ended up getting swarmed with some early activations, mostly my fault because I used a Fully Overrided Secotpod to chase after a pod of sneaky snakes....

Re: Psi Gate Activity?
Got it. Still working on completing my first campaign and this is as far as I've gone, ever. I've been sitting on it hoping it would go down, the original mission expectation was displaying something like HEAVY so I was hoping it would go down but at 172% it's still SWARMING+. I remembered from one ...

Re: Reapers in Long War
Well ... aside from shinobi being my favourite class (love em with SMGs as flankers) I am having a hard time disagreeing with you. :D And if you replace banish with rapid fire they also become less imba (no 1 button kill) and more usefull (not only one use per mission). Agree with Shinobi being one...

Re: If we'll get LW for WoTC, can we have (much) less concealment in it?
I agree that there's probably a better approach so that stealth isn't quite so binary but honestly I prefer the stealth play of the game. You seem to be taking the line that just because you don't find it fun in some part due to your own tastes and because of some somewhat clunky mechanics that it s...

Re: suggestions: wotc
For the hero classes, I think a balanced approach would be to include an upkeep cost associated with keeping them on missions. This could be explained by stating that they require special equipment to be mobilised, and that could cost supplies and manpower. Having an overpowered unit would be aweso...
