Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
a rocketeer in good cover that your sharpshooter can't see I've been wondering: what is the AI decision tree for a Rocketeer? I know they can move and rocket, but I've yet to see them do that if they (and any other active enemy) can't see anything at the start of their turn. Granted I haven't exact...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
But an HQ is probably too long: I prefer double gunners for CC and cover destruction from demolition. Flashbangs can buy you enough time to figure out solutions. Will you run out? Probably. But now there're less pods to worry about and the map gets easier. Yeah, long untimed missions still want con...

Re: Does anyone know the aim bonus in close range from pre nerf Shapshot?
IMO Snapshot need some love I can't think why I would ever want to take DfA over Snapshot, aside from the one guy I'd want to be shooting from range 40+ on a HQ. Flank shots do more than a Steady Weapon will ever do. The AI can't cope with an unseen squadsight sniper. A Snapshot sniper who must lan...

In my view, even you are underestimating specialists. Then again, it requires distorted conditions to make the most of them.Redshirt4life wrote:you may be underestimating these abilities if you think they are the weakest class

Re: Technical Flame Guy
I had a Commander campaign where I banned myself from picking FitH. Ended up with a MSGT flamer who didn't have quickburn while taking firestorm (a mistake). EXO gives +1 Roust use as well as +2 normal flame use, but since the alternative is +1 FitH-aimed rocket use, it's not a compelling argument f...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
I've heard that its not 100% reliable cover destruction, and I heard the cover destroyed is in a limited aoe from the center of the explosion. The latter is true: expect only the center of the frag to have cover removed. The former is true in that there are still some things you shouldn't expect to...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
MEC farming for havens. If this is lower than Legendary, then Mec farming is best done by pushing a Spec to GSGT in June with 8-man GOps, not taking BS. My current values prioritise TA too much to take FO, but I can certainly vouch for the fun in having 3 Mecs in a haven before M2 Mecs start showin...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
Geez I dunno you guys, but I swear by my Sapper Grenadiers. They're basically my key combo piece to make my Rangers (even the OW ones), Gunners and even Sharpshooters be effective on timed missions. It does help that thru trial and error I've basically learned how every piece of terrain behaves aga...

Re: Does the game cheat for the aliens sometimes?
My 4-hit streak was performed by second month Advent troopers at lower elevation against a target in full cover who had Tactical Sense with something like 4-6 enemies in view. These were all standard hits and not grazes. Small note: lower elevation doesn't affect hit chances unless the target has D...

Re: Advent Strength Force Vigiliance
Don't worry, asking for help is always a welcome thread to read - keeps the forum lively. Strength affects Advent activity level. Does Strength affect the quality of Advent troops? Will an Extremely Light mission in a S1 region be the same as a S4 region? Or will S4 have tougher troops. The initial ...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds
No, I'm using 1.5. I'm not having any problems with shredder. Its not 100% reliable destruction, but I heard sapper isn't reliable either. You have to know exactly what cover it can destroy and its in a limited AOE, right? I get the feeling you've tried Sapper a couple times, it didn't react as you...

Re: Does the game cheat for the aliens sometimes?
Does it mess up the hit chances really badly? Like display a 10% chance shot as 0%, for instance? The reason I ask is that even if the "0%" chances were actually something like 1%, that sequence of events is still extremely unlikely to happen. Not actually impossible though, of course. I'...

Re: Does the game cheat for the aliens sometimes?
Even Perfect Information for Long War 2 doesn't always get it right - Faceless attacks are always labelled 100% even if they miss. Also note that sometimes the base game messes up on recognising cover so certain tiles that should be high cover get treated as no cover. This is why I prefer to estimat...

Re: Uncontacted Advent Strength Sinks
Provided you are happy to be in the dark on when an invasion is elligible, this is a valid school of thought. Minor caveat: vigilance won't decay but it can fluctuate depending on Repression dice rolls. The game will never tell you about Repression but the ini comments say every 21 days there's a ch...

Re: Commander mag and psi rush campaigns
Most powerful end game soldier I've had in either campaign was arc thrower + rifle spec assault, but she was petty weak until TSGT, then decent and then godly at MSGT. I do miss my MSGT rifle assault in my last Commander campaign. He got Rapid Reaction from AWC. It wasn't unusual for him to setup 4...

Re: Why Expand to New Regions Early?
Haven't you wondered why your newly contacted region in September has 8 strenght? That's because uncontacted regions don't decrease their vigilance and completing some missions raises vigilance in adjacent regions (ADVENT AI will try to equalize strenght with vigilance). There's more to it than tha...

Re: Why Expand to New Regions Early?
Missions don't spawn until you contact the region. The long-term consequence of ignoring missions is falling behind: Advent keeps advancing in Force. Stronger enemies will show up over time. If you fall behind on tech (scientists, resources) then the missions become miserable until you catch up.

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
I am reminded of another thing I am big a believer in: get most rookies promoted from missions, except extreme stat rookies like 13 movement / 75 aim which will excel in one class and suck at others. That gets you a broader and more resilient roster sooner. But having been allocated a class you sho...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
LoS shenanigans are satisfying but usually not decisive and usually not worth the extra turn or two to set up. There's no reward for killing RNFs, so doing missions quickly and cleanly is best. Personally I hate activating with a grenade because it doesn't kill anything. I don't play with red fog s...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
Those insights are not that far off. Though there is one thing which puts everything else somewhat in context: it takes me nearly an hour to do Gatecrasher if I seek to do it perfectly. I'm simultaneously thinking too much and thinking too little. A notable issue is NCE: I'm constantly checking what...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
Worth considering doing 4-man without a shinobi. Logic being you probably need all 4 guys to fights, so phantom doesn't get you that far. Plus shinobi needs to run forward to attack, and activation risk is a bigger consideration with a smaller squad. Technicals and gunners are both good on 4-man ex...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
Are you going for Laser Rush this time ? Given my shift towards being 4-man ready, I'm beginning to question grabbing Laser before EXO. I would want PG up in time for when Troop Columns become a thing. Commander's Choice distorts the equation as I vastly prefer churning out snipers and gunners over...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
be realistic about it. No need to take risky, under-infiltrated missions just because you need that extra XP, corpses or loot. Better have those soldiers available, than dead or gravely wounded. I would also stick to 2 regions for the first 4 months, as that will give you a mangeable amount of miss...

Re: Discussion of current Legendary campaign
So I've started another campaign (from a prevoius save). I am making myself physically sick (quite l...
