Excited about the new secondaries! Is SMG still the only Long War primary making a return, or will we see any of the others?
Didn't do Battle Rifles or Carbines. With all the weapon mods and ammo types there's not as much design for that sort of thing, plus art is a lot of work.
One question regarding classes: Are there Guerilla Warfare Schools perks for the classes like in vanilla or is that cut like with the standalone perk pack?
There are not class-based perks to buy in the GTS.
Taking this into account do certain classes still retain pistol oriented abilities?
No, but they will be available to soldiers.

Erm... I'm sorry but do you want someone to remodel or at least re-texture that green potato lump on his wrist that has random things strapped to it... I'd gladly remodel it for you because it looks... Bad. Really, really, really bad. That was what my modeling technique was like when I was making my first few projects to sell to people on Secondlife :|

Also, if you are dead set on that... Beige potato like textured block with stuff attached to it model, move it back slightly or scale it down, it clips with the hand and willing to bet certain weapons. But seriously I will remodel this thing it looks terrible, for free.

Seems rude.

As I mentioned on Reddit, go ahead and make a gauntlet model that you think is better and post images here.

I'm super glad for this announcement, and all your hard work guys. I do agree that the model of the wrist-rocket (if I'm allowed to call it that) could be better. If you can get someone to give it the old college try for free, that sounds great.

I also wouldn't feel good getting LW2 for free, due to the amount of work you do and the joy I will get out of it, so in case its free, will you have a way I can pay for it nonetheless?

Thanks for thinking of us. LW2 will be free. It was commissioned by 2K Games so it wouldn't be appropriate for us to accept money for it.

Hello, I think the model that we see is probably only first tier and it looks a little bit funny on last tier armor. I can imagine that the other tiers will look awesome.

Maybe you could make Pavonis Interactive a card or some cookies for your thanks? Or even write a song?

Just a very minor point:

I know that JL already said that the name of the soldier class, "Technical Class," was derived from the military's Technical Vehicles, but it doesn't really seem to "roll off the tongue". Even though it is less accurate from a real military perspective, have you considered changing it to be the "Technician Class"? To my ears at least it sounds better ...

EDIT: absolutely no idea about the grammatical correctness of either

You will get used to "Technical" and in time, grow to love it.

Loving all the LW2 news so far, but yeah, Technical really is a pretty weird name for the class. Seems like something like "Heavy" would've made more sense.

It's funny, but in our language version of the XCOM official site (Russia) this class has been named "Razrushitel" (it means something like "Destroyer" or "Devastator"). I suppose in game it will be the same :D

Talking of classes and armors, I have an armor based question.

So far we will have 5 tiers of weapons, but what about armor? Will there be additional armor tiers similar to LW1? Made up out of combining existing models and decals?

sounds like you are recruiting for Advent ...

BTW "Technical Solder" is something you use to stick 2 pieces of metal together ...

We didn't have the budget for the art to create new armor sets, I'm afraid. We've instead added a system of "platings" that you may wear as a utility item. They grant ablative hit points, starting with Ceramic Plating (an infinite and free item at campaign start) that gives 2 hp. The hit points from the platings are "shield" hit points, in that they can't be healed during combat but losing them doesn't incur any wounds. You can't stack nearly as much ablative hp as you could in LW-EW, but it's better than nothing. You can also stack these with a vest item, which offer 'base' hit points that do incur wounds when list (like the Hazmat Vest).

If there are model artists who want armor sets badly enough, they will make some.

It doesn't fit the style of vanilla 100%, but obviously, the capabilities are there in the modding community. Maybe something like this gets added unofficially to LW2 after it releases.

Confirmed that the in-game name for Technical in the Russian localization is "Разрушитель".

Yes, this is it. "Destroyer". Well... it's ok, I like it 8-)
Thanks, Amineri.

In Chinese, the official translation of Technical is Armoured Trooper(装甲兵). Well, I prefer to Heavy Trooper(重装兵) rather than Armoured Trooper. Heavy Trooper suit that heavy weapon theme. In additional, I don`t think Technical get any armour point at the beginning.

BTW, if there are some translation issues, could we make a translation suggestion post to list all of them for your guys to fix? Long War 2 is the mod I wait for years, I hope the translation could be perfect as well.

Our translations (localization in the game production lingo) were handled by 2K, so feedback on translations to us still has to go through about three or four middlemen before it would reach the right people, and even then, I don't have any idea if they are contracted to support their translations after they are done and tested.

This is an aside, but I do find it really interesting to hear what translators come up with for science fictional terminology. "Technical" is quasi-slang that originates from military operations by English-speaking countries (and the translators hit us with questions about it).

A curiosity regarding rocket scatter: Back in the day, I remember you guys had wanted to implement rocket scatter for EXALT Heavies, but had issues with it causing the game to crash - did you decide to implement that for ADVENT Rocketeers this go around?

offtopic BTW on Technical / Destroyer

In Russian, there is actually a word for technical (the improvised weapon platform): Техничка. It has female gender and diminutive suffix (you could name a technical school or course with it, or a female student thereof), which is presumably completely unfitting for a heavy trooper. I think that's why they went with the pompous fantasy name Devastator...

But техничка would be really cool actually. It sounds like what actual troops might come up with as slang (which it is, of course). Off-the-wall, informal word. A walking technical. Or, like so much of real military slang, with esoteric etymology lost to time (like if you called a tech specialist "gums" because 20 years ago they took to activating their standard-issued beacons by biting on them painting their gums green / presumably damaging their teeth - OR because they wore insulating boots... and nobody can agree on it)
